First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about SWEETS – Buiksloterdraaibrug? It’s literally inside a converted bridge operator’s house on an actual drawbridge. I mean, when they said unique accommodation, I wasn’t expecting to sleep where someone once controlled boat traffic on the IJ river. This four-star spot in Amsterdam Noord is honestly one of the most unusual places I’ve stayed — and I’ve been around a bit.
The Location Story
The thing about staying in Amsterdam Noord is that you’re technically across the water from the main city, but it’s actually brilliant. You’re right on Buiksloterdijk, and the ferry to Central Station takes maybe 15 minutes — plus it runs constantly and it’s free. What I loved is watching the bridge operate throughout the day; you get this front-row seat to Amsterdam’s working waterways that most tourists never see. The couples who rate this place so highly (and they do) probably get it — there’s something pretty romantic about having your own private bridge house.
The Room Experience
The room itself is compact but cleverly designed, which makes sense given it’s a converted operator’s cabin. Everything’s been modernized while keeping the industrial charm — you’ve got floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the water and the city beyond. Honestly, the views are what make this place special. You’re surrounded by water on three sides, and at night when the city lights reflect off the IJ, it’s pretty magical. The bed’s comfortable, and there’s a small seating area where you can just sit and watch boats pass by.
Practical Considerations
Here’s what you should know — this isn’t a traditional hotel with a lobby and room service. You’re basically renting a tiny house on a bridge, which means you get complete privacy but also need to be comfortable with that independence. There’s a small kitchenette setup, though honestly, with Amsterdam Noord’s food scene developing like it is, you’ll want to explore the neighborhood. The area’s got some excellent local spots that aren’t overrun with tourists yet. Parking can be found nearby, though I’d honestly recommend just using the ferries and bikes like locals do.
Why Guests Love It
The 9.1 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here — it’s the kind of place that gives you stories to tell. You’re not just visiting Amsterdam; you’re living a small piece of its maritime history. The fact that recent guests rated the location so highly tells you something about how special this spot really is. It’s quiet enough to feel like an escape, but connected enough that you’re not missing out on anything the city offers. I mean, how many people can say they’ve slept in a working piece of Amsterdam’s infrastructure?

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional It was just perfect! Especially if you want to be in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere - you couldn't ask for a better place.
Exceptional I loved the concept of a mini studio on the bridge. Comfortable bed and shower. Private atmosphere due to the neighborhood and surroundings. Definitely great for a weekend or a few days.
What could be improved: Not a place for light sleepers but there are no cars crossing the bridge- the building is just lightly insulated.
Exceptional Very clean and comfortable, well equipped! Only a 10 minute walk to the metro , which is 2 stops from the centre.
Unique experience! ❤️ I like the location, also the building itself is very unique!
Exceptional The place, the location, and the personnel are awsome, responsive and helpfull !
Everything is made to make your stay amazing !
Amazing and a wonderful way to enjoy Amsterdam! The property was wonderful! Just outside of central Amsterdam whether you would rather walk or talk the metro.
What could be improved: We loved the property, we would however say it’s definitely a weekend break or short stay due to the fact that it is a smaller property - long term stays wouldn’t be as doable.
Exceptional We had a great time! The bed was comfortable, and the cabin was cleverly designed to make our stay comfortable. The location is well connected to the center of Amsterdam by tram.
Beautiful, cosy and relaxing Really amazing location. Such a beauty spot. If you come in on the train I recommend renting bikes as this only took us 20mins including the ferry at a leisurely pace. Beautiful walk/cycle path to central.
The place had everything you need and want for a short stay.
What could be improved: Gets very warm with all the windows but this is quickly fixed with the aircon.
Kitchen area in odd location - adjoined with bathroom area
Exceptional The information on getting into the room was sent right when they said it would be, and I didn't have any issues gaining access.
This place was perfect for just two of us traveling light, and it's beautiful being surrounded by the windows.
We started on a chillier night, and though it wouldn't have taken long to warm such a small space, the temp inside was already perfectly warm when we arrived.
That bed was the most comfortable place I could have imagined!
For a hardwood floor, the slippers were a perfect, thoughtful touch.
Exceptional The accommodation is excellent, really good location, you can easily find transport nearby to Amsterdam center. Very comfortable bed, I slept very well.
