First Impressions
Walking up to Historic Canal House Apartment on Marnixstraat, you immediately get that “this is the real Amsterdam” feeling. I mean, you’re standing right in front of one of those classic narrow canal houses that probably dates back centuries — the kind with those steep stairs and crooked doorframes that make you wonder how people moved furniture up there back in the day. The building has that weathered brick charm that you just can’t fake, and honestly, being right in Amsterdam City Centre means you’re basically living like a local for however long you’re staying.
The Space Itself
This four-star apartment feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room — which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to experience Amsterdam properly. The space has character in spades, with those typical Dutch house quirks like narrow staircases and windows that let in tons of light during the day. You know what I really appreciated? The way they’ve managed to blend the historic bones of the building with modern comforts, so you get that authentic canal house experience without feeling like you’re roughing it.
Location Perks
Here’s where this place really shines — that 8.6 location score isn’t just marketing fluff. You’re literally in the heart of everything, which means you can walk to the major museums, hop on a canal boat tour, or just wander the streets without needing to figure out public transport every time you want to do something. The Jordaan neighborhood is right there (one of my favorite areas for just wandering around), and you’re close enough to the action but not so close that you’re dealing with crowds of tourists stumbling past your window at all hours.
What Makes It Work for Couples
I can totally see why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something romantic about staying in an actual historic canal house rather than some generic hotel chain. The intimate scale of the apartment creates this cozy bubble where you can pretend you’re temporary Amsterdam residents. Plus, having your own space means you can grab groceries at one of the local markets, maybe pick up some Dutch cheese and bread, and have breakfast while looking out at the canal. It’s those little domestic moments that make a trip feel special, you know?
Why Guests Love It
Look, a 7.1 rating might not sound earth-shattering, but for a place in this prime location, it’s pretty solid — and that location score of 8.6 tells the real story. You’re paying for the experience of staying in a genuine piece of Amsterdam history, right where the city’s energy is strongest. The combination of authentic Dutch architecture, that unbeatable central location, and the freedom of having your own apartment space creates something you just can’t get at a regular hotel. Sure, it might have some of those old building quirks, but that’s part of the charm when you’re staying somewhere with this much character and history.

What Our Guests Say
Apartment was nice good size clean beds very comfy great spot to get to anywhere we wsnted to go around town Property was very nice clean and tidy
What could be improved: Steep staircase no microwave or toaster supplied in the kitchen
Fining table was huge too big for room
Neighbours were very noisy and and were load till early in mornings
Very poor Hello
Thank you for your concern, thank you for the wine.
Upon arrival, we found garbage that had not been thrown away, we booked an apartment for four, kitchen utensils were missing, the frying pan on your hob does not work. The bedding in the rooms is clean, but there is a lack of tidiness.
We were also disappointed that you did not inform us that there was repair work going on in the street, it is not possible to drive there, there is noise in the morning.
I think I did not offend you, I hope you will pay attention to our comments.
Good day
Lina
Good location but building works and roadworks plus strangers living downstairs made it not so ideal Location was good.
What could be improved: Roadworks made it very hars to get to. People living downstairs made bad smelling food. Apartment smelled like fish when we arrived.
Exceptional Had everything you could need for a stay in Amsterdam
What could be improved: The handle on the shower room kept falling off. Really needs to be fixed
Comfortable apartment in an excellent location. The location of the apartment was ideal for us -- easy walking distance to both the city center and to the museum quarter. The apartment was very comfortable though a bit Spartan in the furnishings.
What could be improved: The kitchen needs better lighting. In particular, the cooking area is not well-illuminated. Would also suggest providing a set of instructions for the appliances (stove, dishwasher) and the room temperature controls (we found the electronic control panel impossible to figure out, though fortunately we didn't need it).
Pleasant What could be improved: Sheets were not clean. They did not clean it between customers. Someone had clearly slept in the bed before we arrived.
Lovely apartment very close shops and pubs. Very clean and tidy had everything we needed for a 2 nite break . And the ho Lovely place great stay clean had everything we needed.
What could be improved: Nothing everything was great
Great value for money! The apartment was presented exactly like on the website. Keys were easily retrieved through the key box and instructions were promptly sent through email before arrival. The host had left subtle extras like water in the fridge, chocolate and waffles which was a lovely added touch.
What could be improved: There was some slight disturbance from neighbours which did wake us throughout the night.
Plz get back to me asap Size and location
What could be improved: Missing frying pan and broken window
Enjoyable It was a great location and reasonably priced
What could be improved: There were a few things need fixing in the property to make it more convenient. It does not have free to air TV access so not good if relying on seeing a major event.
