First Impressions
Walking up to Multatuli Hotel on Prins Hendrikkade, you’ll immediately notice it sits right in the thick of things β I mean, this is prime Amsterdam real estate we’re talking about. The building has that classic Dutch charm without trying too hard, and honestly, the location alone had me sold before I even stepped inside. It’s one of those three-star places that doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, which I actually found refreshing.
Location Magic
Here’s what really gets me about this spot β you’re literally a two-minute walk from Central Station, but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy or chaotic. The Prins Hendrikkade address puts you right along the historic harbor area, and I loved watching the canal boats drift by from the street. You know what’s great? You can walk to the Red Light District in about five minutes, hit up the Jordaan neighborhood just as easily, and the Anne Frank House is practically next door.
The Room Experience
My room was compact β let’s be honest, this is Amsterdam, so space comes at a premium β but it was thoughtfully laid out. The beds are comfortable enough, and the windows actually open (something you don’t always get in city hotels). The decor is simple and clean, nothing fancy, but there’s something charming about the understated approach. The bathroom was small but functional, with decent water pressure that actually surprised me.
Daily Rhythms
Breakfast happens in a cozy ground-floor space that feels more like a neighborhood cafΓ© than a hotel dining room. It’s continental style β fresh bread, decent coffee, the usual suspects β but the staff genuinely seems to care about getting it right. There’s no restaurant for dinner, but honestly, with Amsterdam’s food scene right outside your door, that’s hardly a problem. I actually preferred exploring the local brown cafΓ©s and canal-side spots just steps away.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Multatuli Hotel isn’t trying to wow you with marble lobbies or over-the-top amenities β it’s banking on location and solid basics, and that strategy works. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, so they’ll point you toward the good stroopwafel place or tell you which tram to catch. For the price point and the fact that you’re sleeping in the absolute heart of Amsterdam’s city center, it’s honestly hard to beat. Just don’t expect a spa day β expect a real Amsterdam experience with a comfortable bed to crash in afterward.

What Our Guests Say
Superb What could be improved: The stiff stairs and 2 doors before the room door
Great location Great location, opposite Central station, good selection for breakfast, lovely staff, mini bar in the room which is reasonably priced and a coffee machine
What could be improved: Room was on the smaller side but only went there to sleep so wasnt an issue and shower no very powerful
Good location for railway station, comfy room but value not best - that's AMS! Location near Central station was ideal for me as arrived and departed by train.Room was spacious and shower strong and good temperature. Breakfast had all the essentials.
What could be improved: Even though there was an elevator there were still some steps to reach it and on the floor I had my room, so not complete level access with a heavy case.
Location location location The location was brilliant and the reception staff were very helpful
What could be improved: No banister on steps to breakfast room
Very good Close to Centraal
What could be improved: A few stairs, not good with heavy case
We would stay again Excellent breakfast, friendly staff
What could be improved: Aeroplane noise
Superb Great location, lovely large room and very quiet. Nice breakfast and friendly, helpful staff
What could be improved: The price seems high fir a 3 star hotel
Great location The location across from the π΅ station was excellent. We requested a twin room and received a spacious triple. The shower was in a bath but was very good. Two towels each. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. Breakfast was fine.
What could be improved: There were lockers available to store our bags after checkout. We were lucky and got the last one. Some people might miss out if they don't get in early.
Superb Great staff and service. Proximity to the center. Cozy room
Great hotel, close to train station and close to all the sites We arrived by train and the hotel was very close, so it was quite convenient. It was also close to get around the city to see the sites.
What could be improved: Nothing
