First Impressions
The Melrose Hotel sits on Elandsgracht in a way that feels perfectly Amsterdam β tucked into a row of traditional canal houses but with a modern sensibility that doesn’t try too hard. When I first walked up, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this three-star property, but there’s something immediately welcoming about the entrance. It’s not flashy, which I actually appreciate in a city where so many hotels feel like they’re competing for attention.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what you need to know about the location β it’s genuinely excellent, and I mean that in practical terms, not just marketing speak. You’re in Amsterdam City Centre on Elandsgracht, which puts you within walking distance of the Jordaan district (one of my favorite neighborhoods) and close enough to the main canals that you feel like you’re in the real Amsterdam. The couples who rate this location so highly aren’t wrong β there’s something romantic about being able to stroll to the Anne Frank House or duck into one of those cozy brown cafes without dealing with tourist crowds every step of the way.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed β and honestly, that’s what you want in Amsterdam where space is always at a premium. Everything felt clean and well-maintained, which matters more than fancy amenities when you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the city. The windows actually open (not always a given), and if you’re lucky enough to get a canal view, well, that’s just a bonus that makes the whole experience feel more authentic.
Neighborhood Insights
What I really love about this spot is how it puts you in touch with local Amsterdam life. Elandsgracht isn’t one of those streets that’s completely overrun with tourists β you’ll see people heading to work, locals doing their shopping, kids on bikes. There’s a good restaurant scene within a few blocks, and you’re close enough to the Noordermarkt that you can grab fresh bread and cheese for breakfast if you want to save a few euros. The tram connections are solid too, though honestly, you’ll probably end up walking everywhere because that’s just how Amsterdam works.
Why Guests Love It
The Melrose Hotel works because it doesn’t oversell itself β it’s a solid, well-located place to stay that lets Amsterdam be the star. The staff seems to understand that most guests are here for the city, not the hotel amenities, so they focus on being helpful rather than impressive. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having a quiet base in the heart of everything without paying five-star prices. You know what you’re getting, and sometimes that reliability is exactly what makes a trip work.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Amsterdam before Pride flotillas paint the Singel and Reguliersgracht rainbow.

What Our Guests Say
Lovely hotel, friendly staff and beautiful city. Clean and a change of towels. Friendly staff.
What could be improved: Only limited coffee in the room and not enough milk. Morning of airport we had no coffee π₯Ή
The shower was very transparent especially as we shared a room together with adult children.
Amazing location and staff. Rooms are small though functional Location, staff and flexibility of checkin and checkout. Lot of good restaurants near by and very accessible to tourists locations via walk and tram
What could be improved: Itβs a bit small. Also only one charging outlet that limits charging multiple devices simultaneously
Very good Location, great staff, clean
very pleased friendly staff and really helpful, beds were comfy, showers were good, room service daily. all round top hotel , especially for the price
What could be improved: shower could be a bit more private but it's not end of the world
Good When searching for a hotel, I selected parking. Upon arrival, the employee showed me a paid public parking lot, which cost half the room rate. I believe that including parking in their offer is deceptive.
Very pleasant staying. I can recommend The Location, the staff and the General atmosphere
What could be improved: The bathroom is too small and not very private. The room for 4 people is a little bit too small.
Would recommend Walking distance to restaurants and shops.
What could be improved: Rooms small, other than that, was okay.
Great place- would definitely stay here again. The location
What could be improved: That the housekeeping supplies were throughout the hallway- and the laundry bin was at the bottom of the stairs by the door. It made it hard to get in and up the stairs with our luggage.
Suited our needs. Great location, neighborhood restaurants, bakery for breakfast, pubs a very nice a Coffee in the room
What could be improved: Room s weβre small, but thatβs typical European
Very satisfactory Could drop in luggage before checking in time, without extra fee.
Complementary coffee at certain time in Lobby also appreciated
