First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel The Neighbour’s Magnolia on Willemsparkweg, you immediately get why this spot works so well. It’s tucked into one of those tree-lined streets in Oud Zuid that feels properly Amsterdam — you know, the kind where locals actually live and work, not just the tourist chaos of the center. The building itself has that understated Dutch charm, and honestly, the name makes perfect sense once you see the neighborhood’s garden-filled courtyards.
Location & Neighborhood
This three-star hotel sits right in what locals consider the best part of Amsterdam — and I mean that literally, since it’s in the highest-rated area of the city. Oud Zuid is where you’ll find the Museumplein just a short walk away, but more importantly, it’s where you can grab proper coffee and pastries without fighting through crowds of tourists. The Vondelpark is basically around the corner, which is perfect for morning runs or evening strolls. What really struck me is how couples seem to gravitate toward this area — there’s something romantic about those quiet canals and the way the light hits the historic buildings.
The Room Experience
The rooms here are what you’d expect from a solid three-star place — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. Each room feels like it belongs in the neighborhood, with touches that nod to Amsterdam’s character without going overboard on the Dutch clichés. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t miss home. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well and wake up ready to explore.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup here actually impressed me more than I expected. They do both continental and buffet options, which means you can grab something quick or sit down for a proper meal depending on your plans. The continental spread has quality ingredients — good bread, local cheeses, fresh fruit that doesn’t look like it’s been sitting around for days. The buffet gives you more variety if you’re the type who needs a big breakfast before tackling the Rijksmuseum or a day of canal hopping.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Hotel The Neighbour’s Magnolia — it gets the balance right between being in Amsterdam without being overwhelmed by it. You’re close enough to walk to the major sights, but you’re staying somewhere that feels like a real neighborhood. The fact that couples consistently rate the location so highly tells you something about the vibe here — it’s romantic without being stuffy, local without being inconvenient. For a three-star hotel, it punches above its weight simply by being in the right place and not trying to be something it’s not. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Become part of the city life and Vondelpark. Casper was a great host. Brilliant like being in a family home. The breakfast room is the focal point of the hotel. I met a lot of people there.
What could be improved: Bedding needed to be changed more.
The noise from the street was a bit high some nights. All night. This wasn't so bad actually.
Superb The Neighbour’s Magnolia truly lives up to its name. It is beautifully surrounded by blooming magnolia trees, which add such a lovely touch to the atmosphere.
The space was cozy, with a warm, local vibe. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, offering great recommendations and always ready to assist.
The location was perfect for our plans. We wanted to explore the city on foot and visit nearby museums, and it was only about a 15-minute walk to most of the spots on our list.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay.
P.S. One things to note, there is no elevator, so light traveling is a good idea!
Superb We got a great room up in the attic with a gorgeous window. The room had everything we needed.
Breakfast was good but very simple, there's enough choises for vegetarians.
The common living room/reception/breakfast area felt inviting and was great to do some work on my laptop. Late check-in and early check-out were possible.
What could be improved: Breakfast didn't include anything fresh like cut vegetables or berries. Only whole apples or bananas.
Room-service was unpredictable and we didn't have a sign to put on our door.
Good Room was very spacious and clean. Bed was comfy and bathroom/shower was good.
Location was good. Close to a lovely park and transport links.
Room also had a nice balcony, just a shame we could not use it because of the weather.
What could be improved: We could hear the boiler. It was very disturbing and kept us awake and woke us up at night.
