First Impressions
Walking up to The Times Hotel on Herengracht, you immediately know you’ve found something special. It’s tucked into one of those classic Amsterdam canal houses — you know, the tall, narrow kind with the ornate facade that makes you crane your neck to see the top floors. The building itself dates back centuries, and honestly, that’s half the charm right there.
Perfect Canal Ring Location
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re right in the heart of Amsterdam‘s canal belt, but it’s not touristy in that overwhelming way. Herengracht is actually one of the most prestigious canals, so you get those postcard views without fighting crowds for photos. The Anne Frank House is maybe a ten-minute walk, and you can easily stroll to the Jordaan neighborhood for dinner. I mean, you’re literally surrounded by 17th-century architecture everywhere you look.
The Room Experience
The rooms are what you’d expect from a canal house — compact but cleverly designed. My room had these huge windows overlooking the canal, and watching the boats drift by became my morning coffee ritual. The decor strikes this nice balance between honoring the building’s history and feeling modern enough that you’re not sacrificing comfort. The beds are actually really good quality, which isn’t always a given at three-star places.
Dining and Amenities
The ground floor restaurant serves solid Dutch and international dishes — nothing fancy, but well-executed comfort food that hits the spot after a day of walking around the city. What really impressed me was the breakfast spread; they clearly put effort into sourcing good local ingredients. There’s no spa or fitness center, but honestly, with all the walking and cycling you’ll do in Amsterdam, you won’t miss it.
Why Guests Love It
Look, The Times Hotel isn’t trying to be something it’s not. It’s a solid, well-run place that gives you an authentic Amsterdam experience without the premium price tag of the big chain hotels. The staff actually seems to enjoy helping guests — they’ll draw little maps showing you shortcuts to avoid tourist crowds, or recommend that tiny brown café around the corner that locals frequent. Plus, finding parking in central Amsterdam is notoriously difficult, but they can arrange secure spots nearby if you’re driving in from elsewhere in Europe.
To book a hotel in Amsterdam during King’s Day, visitors plan ahead to balance orange-clad street parties with quiet Jordaan strolls.

What Our Guests Say
Perfect location! Beautiful property, modern facilities and one of the few hotels with a lift! Rooms were a generous size (for Amsterdam). Bathroom was huge and had a bath! Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
What could be improved: Bed was uncomfortable. Seems to be two single mattresses next to each other so you fell in the crack sometimes
Stayed for one night and had everything we needed with easy accessibility to Amsterdam central Perfect spot
Aesthetically pleasing bedroom
Everything we needed was there.
What could be improved: Room was very close to dining area so very noisy in the early morning
Great location, decent value. A good choice for solo travellers and business. Location excellent. Staff great, room clean. Decent value for central Amsterdam. Breakfast good, if a little limited.
What could be improved: Room quite compact! No lighting in ironing room, made it challenging to get my shirt sorted.
We would definitely stay there again. The hotel was convenient to the heart of Amsterdam and the metro system. We had a room that looked out at the canal. Which was lovely! There was an optional breakfast which was nice.
Great location but with tight quarters - needed more space for two suitcases. Good location
What could be improved: Small room
Superb Great location inside city along canal and in very vibrant neighborhood.
What could be improved: One staff member was rude and not helpful in regards to tourism.
Good value for money Super confy beds, and very quiet room, perfect to sleep. Good water pressure.
What could be improved: Very small rooms.
Just great place to stay! Very inviting, great location, the staff were first rate.
