First Impressions
Walking up to The Hoxton, Lloyd Amsterdam, you can’t help but notice this isn’t your typical hotel. The building itself has this industrial charm — it’s actually a converted Lloyd Hotel from way back, and honestly, they’ve kept just enough of that original character to make it feel authentic. The lobby has this relaxed, almost living room vibe with mismatched furniture and local artwork that doesn’t try too hard to impress.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about Zeeburg — it’s not the tourist-packed center of Amsterdam, and that’s exactly why it works. You’re right on the waterfront with actual views of the IJ river, which most visitors never even see. The area feels more like where locals actually hang out, and there’s this great walking path along the water that I found myself using every morning. It’s maybe a 15-minute tram ride to Central Station, but you know what? The neighborhood has enough cafés and spots that you won’t feel stuck.
The Room Experience
The rooms at this four-star spot are what I’d call thoughtfully designed without being fussy. Each room feels a bit different — some have these great industrial touches like exposed pipes, while others lean more minimal and clean. The beds are genuinely comfortable, and they’ve got these lovely rain showers that actually work properly. What I really appreciated was the little coffee setup and how the windows actually open, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotels skip that detail.
Food & Social Spaces
The ground floor restaurant and bar area becomes this nice social hub in the evenings, though it never feels overwhelming or loud. Breakfast is solid — not fancy, but they do proper Dutch cheese, good bread, and decent coffee. I mean, it’s not going to change your life, but it sets you up well for the day. The bar stays open late enough if you want a nightcap, and the staff genuinely seems to know their cocktails.
Why Guests Love It
What makes The Hoxton, Lloyd Amsterdam work is that it feels like staying in Amsterdam rather than just visiting it. The waterfront location gives you this different perspective on the city, and the staff — they’re helpful without being overly attentive. There’s free WiFi that actually works, and they’ve got bike rentals which honestly is the best way to explore from here. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a few days and feel like you’ve discovered something a bit special, even if you’re not the first person to find it.

What Our Guests Say
Nice stay Location was good, breakfast was good too
What could be improved: Breakfast price was a bit on the high side.
Also a ramp on one side of the entrance would help with going up with the luggage.
Beautifully designed hotel with everything you need for a short stay The hotel feels boutique, but is large enough to have everything you need. I arrived just as the kitchen was closing, and they managed to provide me with dinner, which I was grateful for. There's a supermarket right opposite, and a tram stop about 2 min walk away, which is handy for travelling to Central.
What could be improved: A bit more variety on the room service menu would be great
Very nice atmosphere and staff and great location Everything
What could be improved: Nothing

What could be improved: Can be super warm in the top floor corridor
I would love to stay again. I loved the design of the room. The staff were also friendly. The location of the hotel was great as well.
Well looked after but noisy neighbourhood on Friday and Saturday night Beautiful decoration and interesting history. 24 hour desk. Very good staff for all needs.
What could be improved: Very noisy at night from bars across the road out front.
Exceptional It had a funky, chilled vibe... We loved it!
What could be improved: Thought we were not going to enjoy at first... All worked out fabulous in the end.
Original. Interesting building. It served previously as a jail for adolescens.
