First Impressions
The Hoxton, Amsterdam sits right on Herengracht — one of those picture-perfect canal streets that makes you stop and take photos even when you’re just trying to get to your room. The building itself is a classic Amsterdam canal house, all narrow and tall with those distinctive windows that somehow manage to let in more light than seems possible. You know what struck me first? How they’ve kept that historic Amsterdam feel while making everything feel fresh and modern inside.
Location & Neighborhood
Being in the City Centre means you’re basically in the heart of everything — I mean, you can walk to the Anne Frank House in about ten minutes, and the Jordaan district is right there when you want to explore those winding streets full of cafes and vintage shops. What’s actually great about this spot on Herengracht is that it feels residential rather than touristy, so you get a real sense of how locals live. The Nine Streets (De Negen Straatjes) shopping area is practically on your doorstep, which honestly saved me when I realized I’d forgotten half my wardrobe.
The Room Experience
The rooms have this cozy, lived-in vibe that Hoxton does so well — think exposed brick, custom furniture, and those little touches like locally-sourced snacks and a guitar (yes, really) if you’re feeling creative. The beds are seriously comfortable, and I loved how each room feels a bit different rather than that cookie-cutter hotel thing. The bathrooms are compact but cleverly designed, which is pretty much what you’d expect in a historic Amsterdam building where space is at a premium.
Food & Social Spaces
The ground floor restaurant and bar area buzzes with energy — it’s one of those places where locals actually hang out, not just hotel guests looking lost with their guidebooks. Breakfast is solid without being fancy (good coffee, fresh pastries, proper eggs), and the evening crowd creates this really nice atmosphere where you can easily strike up conversations. I actually ended up having drinks there most nights because the vibe was just right — relaxed but never boring.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star hotel gets the balance right between Amsterdam’s historic charm and modern comfort. You’re staying in a real piece of the city rather than some generic international chain, but you still get reliable wifi, great service, and a front desk team that actually knows the neighborhood. The fact that it feels like a local gathering spot rather than just a place to sleep makes all the difference — you end up feeling connected to Amsterdam itself, not just visiting it.

What Our Guests Say
Good hotel central location Nice view on the canal
What could be improved: The restaurant and hang out area is a bit invaded
Superb Like a home from home
Very good everything was very good.
What could be improved: for that price the room should at least include breakfast
A good stay! Good location, nice water bottles coffee and the bed and pillows.
What could be improved: The room was really small.
Lovely stay, great location with comfortable rooms. It had the Hoxton charm and small them touches that we love. The location was great to visit by walking not far at all, to see all the things we love to do in Amsterdam!
What could be improved: Sadly the restaurant and bar area Lotti’s was understaffed from our perspective, frustrated guests waiting a while for their orders and exasperated staff. With that being said all staff we interacted with were all polite and nice though just very slow service which is disappointing.
The comfy room was incredible comply and felt bug enough. BUT if you bring a large case, be mindful you'll need to unpack as there isn't much room to open your case and leave it open on the floor!
Great location , Very friendly helpful staff on the desk , Clean big spacious room . Location was fantastic , Friendly staff when you arrive, Great breakfast, Very big room and super comfy bed, huge bathroom and separate toilet .We loved that there was lots of complementary tea, coffee with sufficient Milk in the fridge .
What could be improved: The staff at breakfast on our first morning was really not friendly in a bad mood and he made it a bit of an awkward vibe.
Not enough bikes to use . After travelling for a month and coming from Australia it was our last stop and we splurged on this hotel for a big room and l was disappointed with our dark room looking into a function space.
An interesting hotel in a great location with friendly helpful staff. Great location with an interesting vibe
What could be improved: Expensive without providing the added extras you would expect at this price point. The lobby was way too crowded with people all on laptops - made the place feel like a business centre not a relaxing holiday destination!
Superb The staff was friendly, great location close to everything
Very good Location, room was gorgeous
What could be improved: Check-in took a long time, but the staff were nice
Loved the room and really loved visiting Amsterdam Excellent location. Great space, rooms and decor. Delicious breakfast. Dinner menu wasn’t compelling. The hotel misses the mark when it comes to tourism customer service and the small quality details - the staff were not professional; bathroom amenities are limited; the room refrigerator has gratis water, seltzer and half and half (directing guests to purchase items behind the lobby desk or through room service - which is slow). Main issue is that the entire lobby/lounge area is filled every day with local remote workers on their laptops from 7am, all day long. No place for guests to sit. I felt like I was walking through my office every morning. Pretty stressful. At the same time I felt this hotel isn’t living up to the business and hospitality potential this property deserves.
