The façade has that solid, trustworthy look that old financial institutions were going for back in the day. Walking in, you immediately notice they’ve kept some of the original banking details, which gives this three-star place a character that most chain hotels just can’t match.

Haarlemmerstraat is one of those streets locals actually use, not just tourists wandering around with maps. You’re about a 10-minute walk from Central Station, which sounds far but actually works in your favor — you avoid the absolute chaos right around the station while still being close enough to catch trains or trams anywhere. The Jordaan district is right there too, and that’s where you’ll find the real Amsterdam vibe with its narrow streets and brown cafés.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was compact — this is Amsterdam, so no surprises there — but they’ve made smart use of the space. The design feels modern without trying too hard, and the bed was actually comfortable, which isn’t always a given in European city hotels. What I appreciated most was the decent-sized window that let in proper daylight, something you don’t always get in these old canal district buildings.

There’s a restaurant downstairs that serves breakfast and stays open for dinner, though I’ll be honest — I mostly used it for coffee and the occasional quick bite. The real food adventure is literally outside your door on Haarlemmerstraat. You’ve got everything from proper Dutch brown bars to trendy spots that change their menu weekly. The hotel doesn’t have a spa or fitness center, but for a three-star in this location, that’s not really the point.

What makes The Bank Hotel work is that it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. It’s a solid, well-located base for exploring Amsterdam without the premium you’d pay for hotels closer to the museum district or the main canals. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — they’ll point you toward the good stroopwafel place around the corner or tell you which tram gets you to Vondelpark fastest. For the price point and location, you’re getting genuine Amsterdam character in a building that’s seen the city change over decades.
