First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Prins Hendrik on Prins Hendrikkade, you immediately get that classic Amsterdam feeling — you’re right in the thick of things but not overwhelmed by tourist chaos. The building itself has that traditional Dutch charm you’d expect from a three-star property in the city center, and honestly, the location alone makes you feel like you’ve made a smart choice. I mean, you’re literally steps away from Central Station, which sounds busy but actually works in your favor since everything becomes incredibly accessible from here.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re on one of Amsterdam’s main thoroughfares, but it doesn’t feel frantic. The hotel sits perfectly between the historic center and the waterfront, so you can walk to Dam Square in about ten minutes or catch a canal cruise practically from your doorstep. What really impressed me is how couples seem to gravitate toward this area (they rate the location nearly perfect), and I get why — there’s something romantic about being able to stroll along the canals at night and still be home in minutes. Plus, having Central Station so close means day trips to other Dutch cities are totally doable.
The Rooms
The accommodations are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star hotel in Amsterdam — clean, comfortable, and efficiently designed without any unnecessary frills. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Amsterdam, after all), but they’re thoughtfully laid out so you don’t feel cramped. I actually appreciated that they didn’t try to oversell the space — what you get is honest and functional, with decent beds and everything you need for a city break. The windows offer nice views of either the street life below or glimpses of the canals, depending on which room you snag.
Dining Experience
You know what caught me off guard? The food here is genuinely good — like, better than it needs to be for a hotel in this category. I went in with pretty modest expectations, but the meals are actually worth planning your evening around rather than just grabbing something quick before heading out. The breakfast sets you up well for a day of walking around the city, and if you decide to eat dinner at the hotel, you won’t feel like you’re missing out on Amsterdam’s food scene. It’s that kind of pleasant surprise that makes a stay feel more special than you anticipated.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to Hotel Prins Hendrik is that perfect balance of location and value that’s getting harder to find in Amsterdam. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting that unbeatable city center position that lets you experience Amsterdam like a local rather than a tourist rushing between distant attractions. The fact that it consistently scores so well with couples tells you something about the atmosphere — it’s got that relaxed, authentic Amsterdam vibe without being pretentious about it. Sometimes the best hotels are the ones that just get the basics really, really right.
Amsterdam hotels keep travelers close to cycling routes, floating flower markets, and tram lines to hidden gems.

What Our Guests Say
Great location, basic room Very close to Amsterdam Centraal. Front desk staff is friendly. Nice breakfast.
What could be improved: Lift broke down on day of departure. Stairs are steep and narrow, difficult to carry heavy luggage down. Room is very basic.
Superb It was about an 8 minute walk from the railway station, dragging our bags. Easy walk to all the central location attractions. The large Rijks Museum was about a 20 minute walk away. The large King sized bed was comfy. The staff were pleasant. The included breakfast was good.
What could be improved: If you used the stairs, rather than the lift, they were VERY steep (approx 45° angle).
Perfect in every way but one. The location and size of the room were exceptional. The view outside the room was absolutely stupendous. The breakfast was great. The staff were helpful and accommodating. I want to give this hotel a perfect rating for all this!
What could be improved: However, the wifi was really bad. As international tourists, we could only rely on our hotel wifi for buying online tickets, finding opening hours for places we wanted to visit, and getting good public transit directions, and the hotel wifi network would often disappear for long stretches of time during our visit. If you are a super low-tech type, or you have an international data plan, do not be deterred from staying in this fabulous hotel!
Very good Perfect location and everything is so accessible. good size room for the family. Staff very friendly and happy to assist in anyway..
What could be improved: They could have had tea and coffee facilities in the room that would have been nice.
Very good Excellent location, friendly stuff, delicious breakfast and comfortable beds.
What could be improved: WiFi is weak. At night there is noise of people from the street. The gaas boiler on the stairs in the apartment bedroom.
Good experience and would stay again Fantastic location, very clean and comfortable, slept good considering location.
Staff very friendly and helpful
Breakfast was nice something for everyone
What could be improved: Were told a fridge was in the room there wasn’t which was a shame
Overall, I felt comfortable here. It would be good if all the people on reception were as friendly and helpful as Tania Comfortable bed. And friendliness of some staff members!
What could be improved: A very stern man with a strange beard.
Superb The reception staff was very helpful. The restaurant was superb inclusing breakfast. Storage for luggage was fine. Location was wonderful near central station.
What could be improved: Distance from muswums.
Very nice stay, hotel with personality; not cheap but prices reflect the popularity of Amsterdam. It was all very comfortable and clean, despite the fsct that the building is quite old.
What could be improved: There was quite a bit of noise from the street until midnight, but this was to be expected, given the location so close to the bars and red light district.
Great Close to everything
What could be improved: A little loud a couple times in the middle of the night from Party years
