First Impressions
Walking up to SWEETS – Beltbrug honestly feels like stumbling upon Amsterdam’s best-kept secret. This four-star gem sits right in the Westerpark area, and I mean right where you want to be — close enough to the action but far enough from the tourist chaos. The building itself has this understated charm that immediately tells you this isn’t your typical chain hotel experience. The boutique aesthetic and personalized approach set the tone for what makes this property distinctive in the Amsterdam hospitality landscape.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what I love about this spot? It’s in Amsterdam‘s Westerpark district, which locals actually hang out in. The Tweede Hugo de Grootstraat address might sound intimidating, but trust me — you’re perfectly positioned here. Couples especially seem to get it (they rate the location 8.6, and honestly, I can see why). You can walk to the city center without feeling like you need a recovery day, plus there’s this authentic Amsterdam vibe in the neighborhood that you just don’t get near Dam Square. The proximity to cultural attractions and local dining venues makes this location particularly appealing for travelers seeking genuine neighborhood experiences.
The Room Experience
The room design is where things get interesting. SWEETS has this concept that’s sort of brilliant — they’ve transformed unique spaces into boutique accommodations, and the Beltbrug location really showcases this approach. Everything feels thoughtfully curated rather than mass-produced. The space maximizes every square meter (which, let’s be honest, is crucial in Amsterdam), and there’s this attention to detail that makes you want to actually spend time in your accommodation rather than just crash there. Each room reflects the creative vision that defines the SWEETS brand.
What Makes It Special
Here’s the thing about SWEETS — they’ve figured out how to make a smaller property feel more personal than those massive hotels. The staff actually remembers your name, and they know the neighborhood well enough to give you recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist spots. I mean, when you’re paying for a four-star experience, you want that level of service, right? Plus, the whole concept feels very Amsterdam — creative, a bit unconventional, but executed really well. This personalized approach to hospitality creates memorable stays that guests consistently praise.
Why Guests Love It
That 8.9 rating isn’t just numbers — you can feel it when you’re there. The location score of 8.5 makes perfect sense once you realize you’re in one of Amsterdam’s top-rated areas without the premium prices of the canal ring. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because you’ve found your Amsterdam base. Whether you’re exploring the nearby Westerpark (actual park, not just the neighborhood name) or heading into the center, everything feels accessible but not overwhelming. The combination of thoughtful design, excellent service, and strategic location creates an exceptional value proposition for discerning travelers.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Location and bed was amazing
What could be improved: The toilet was quite small and was quite hard to dry yourself completely after showering without wetting the floor in the room
Unique property I liked the location overlooking the canal. I love the concept of reusing these unique properties. Check-in was seamless. Convenient to public transportation.
What could be improved: Although we expected it to be small, it is really small -- just a tad larger than the bed.
Unique, quirky and bijou. A great location to explore Amsterdam from. A compact and bijou, bridge house, in a beautiful part of Amsterdam. Excellent transport links into the City Centre, which is also walkable.
Very quirky and unique accommodation, that brings a wonderful addition to a city stop in Amsterdam.
Superb No neighbor's
Walkable distance to the center
Room is super cute
Had enough space for everything
What could be improved: Was quite difficult for the air to air heater to keep it warm, so was a bit chill
perfect location The location was great, close to the centre but not loud at night. Easy check in, comfy for 2.
Great location, really recommend it. The location next to the Canal was brilliant. We had beautiful weather and so it was perfect.
We also enjoyed the bridge swings.
Public Transport was superb.
What could be improved: It was a little cramped, but we expected that and it did not spoil our stay.
The place was not luxury, but it was comfy and I would really recommend it.
Wonderful property & views :) Fantastic property! 20 min walk to the nine streets/anne Frank museum, but also super close to trams and a supermarket just across the road.
Kitted out with everything you’d need! Originally we thought the bed may have been a little small on the photos, however it’s a king (not a double) and it’s very comfy! It was lovely walking up to the windmill and watching the boats go past, especially when the bridge gets lifted!
What could be improved: We got there quite late in the evening when it was dark, unfortunately the boat house is covered in graffiti, which is a real shame - it did make me feel uneasy at night because of this, like perhaps it wasn’t the greatest of neighbourhoods? Perhaps the hotel company could clean it or paint over it all and create a lovely mural?
Because of this uneasy feeling I would have liked a secondary latch on the door - chain latch, as you just had to trust the door was locked automatically.
Quaint, unique, comfortable and we loved it 270 degree views. Unique
What could be improved: Graffiti on outside and appearance from outside that it was disused
Very good Amazing little gem. So cool with what they have done with these canal bridge houses. Close to restaurants, public transit and good location . Not more than a half hour bus ride to get anywhere. Very good to deal with and quick to respond over email.
What could be improved: Only one little thing. A microwave would have been nice. Had everything else but just a small microwave would have topped it off. But if that's the worst then not too bad I think.
Very good The room was so cosy and clean and welcoming. We loved it all inside and the canal view was lovely. Really comfy bed and had everything you needed. We even had a hand written card and information on the local area, so thoughtful! Loved the local restaurants too and seeing the boats pass through with the working bridge! Thanks for a lovely stay!
What could be improved: One night we had locals sat drinking and playing music right outside the room for the evening, which was a bit loud, but they did clean up after themselves and leave by 11pm. Not a worry for us but for people looking for complete quiet it may be an issue. We did have a couple of incidences of passers by either urinating or vomiting on the stairs outside the door, which wasn't ideal but know this isn't in the control of the people running the accomodation. We thought maybe making the accomodation look a bit more lived in/in use may help this? Otherwise a great stay!
