First Impressions
Walking down Pieter Jacobszstraat, you’d almost miss Rust B&B if you weren’t looking for it — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This unassuming four-star gem sits tucked into one of Amsterdam‘s most authentic neighborhoods, where locals still outnumber tourists on the sidewalks. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that makes the name “Rust” (which means “rest” in Dutch) feel completely intentional.
The Heart of Real Amsterdam
You know what I love about this location? It’s in Amsterdam City Centre, but it feels like a secret only locals know about. The Jordaan district is just around the corner, and you can actually walk to the Anne Frank House in about ten minutes without fighting through the usual crowds on Damrak. There’s a fantastic brown café called Café de Reiger literally two blocks away where you’ll hear more Dutch than English — which is pretty rare in central Amsterdam these days.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was small by American standards, but perfectly designed for the space. Every inch serves a purpose, and there’s something refreshing about the minimalist approach after dealing with cluttered hotel rooms elsewhere. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the windows actually open (thank goodness) so you can hear the gentle hum of bicycle bells in the morning. The bathroom’s compact but well-thought-out — honestly, I’ve seen much worse in hotels twice the price.
Morning Rituals
Breakfast happens in this cozy common area that feels more like someone’s dining room than a hotel space. It’s nothing fancy — fresh bread, local cheese, good coffee — but it’s exactly what you want before heading out to explore. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you plan your day, and they’ll point you toward hidden spots that most visitors never find. I mean, they told me about this tiny bookshop-café hybrid that became my favorite morning stop.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Rust B&B — it delivers on its promise of being a peaceful retreat without sacrificing access to everything Amsterdam offers. That 9.6 rating isn’t just numbers; it reflects how this place makes you feel like you’re staying in the city rather than just visiting it. The value is incredible for what you get, especially considering you’re walking distance from major attractions but tucked away from the chaos. If you want authentic Amsterdam with modern comfort, this is your spot.

What Our Guests Say
Charming room in a great location Charming lovely interior with local themed decor. Conveniently located within easy distance of what makes Amsterdam awesome.
What could be improved: Location could prove very lively for some people.
Definitely my favorite place to stay in Amsterdam Really awesome place with an awesome host. I felt better than at home!
Location is at the heart of the city, so it was easy to walk everywhere and come back to the bedroom.
What could be improved: Nothing. But I reckon two things might be negative to certain guests:
- There is no view. I don’t mind at all, but I know people who need something to look at.
- Rooms are upstairs without lifts. It is a common thing in Amsterdam, but be warned if you need accessibility.
Excellent spot to enjoy and incredible city! This is the place to stay if you want to be right in the midst of old town action and activity!
What could be improved: Plan your transportation out of Amsterdam early. Prices rise inside 3 days.
Great location, helpful host. Clean, close to everything, welcoming host
Perfect Stay💕. 100% recommended. V.x Great location
Fabulous host
Huge super tasty breakfast
We only stayed one night and enjoyed ourselves so much we have booked two nights in August.
Matthijs is really helpful and full of information.
Comfortable, stylish, amazing location and value. Highly recommended. Rust is a lovely hotel right in the heart of Amsterdam. It's surprisingly quiet, safe and comfortable given it's right in the red light district. Matthias is an excellent host who clearly takes pride in his business. He took the time to welcome us and make detailed recommendations on where to eat/see/drink/do around the city and every one of the places we tried were amazing. He has excellent taste and a keen eye for out of the way places (being local after all). We also took the breakfast option which is amazing value - the cutest cafe just around the corner serving a generous breakfast (you won't need lunch). If you're looking for a quiet base to explore Amsterdam and want to support local businesses, I highly recommend staying here.
What could be improved: Nothing - just be aware of the stairs (not only at Rust but pretty much all over Amsterdam), they are steep!
I highly recommend this centrally located B & B if you want a cosy en-suite room with a lovely host and an amazing b The property was centrally located near Dam square. The bed was really comfortable and as it is on a side street, there was no noise. Our host Mattijs allowed us to leave our bags when we arrived in the City and when we had checked out so we didn’t have to worry about access to the museums. He was really helpful in providing information about where to visit, where to eat etc. We were given a voucher for breakfast at a bakery 4 blocks from the property and what a breakfast that was! The owner of the cafe was lovely and breakfast was so big that we had a ready made lunch with what we couldn’t manage for breakfast. Delicious!
What could be improved: The architecture of properties in the City meant that there were some steep stairs to climb to get to the room. This was not a problem for us but might be difficult for people with mobility limitations.
Exceptional So it's Amsterdam which means... steps and expensive. That said, the steps were no worse than I've had before and the price was good value for money. The location is awesome - we enjoyed wandering around the red light district and the fact we could borrow bikes to head further afield was awesome. And the breakfast... honestly, incredible.
I'm pretty choosy but I'll be back, for sure
Perfect for anyone looking for peace in the middle of all the excitement of Amsterdam. Was extremely clean, well organized, and comfortable. Host was so accommodating and good at communicating. We felt so welcomed and relaxed.
Best host The host was incredibly helpful and we really liked his attitude towards his guests. His attention to details, which is visible in the decoration of the room and small things (e.g., waffles, tea selection) made our stay really comfortable.
