First Impressions
Walking down Berenstraat in Amsterdam‘s historic center, you’ll almost miss the Nine Streets Inn if you’re not looking carefully. The entrance is understated in that quintessentially Dutch way — no flashy signage, just a classic canal house facade that’s been thoughtfully converted into a three-star boutique hotel. I mean, this is exactly what you want when you’re staying in the famous Nine Streets shopping district, right in the heart of everything.
Location Perks
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally surrounded by those narrow cobblestone streets packed with vintage shops, cozy cafes, and local boutiques that tourists dream about. The Anne Frank House is maybe a five-minute walk away, and you can easily stroll to the major canals without dealing with tram schedules. Actually, forget the trams for most things; everything’s walkable from here, which honestly saves you money and gives you that authentic Amsterdam experience of getting slightly lost in the maze of canals.
The Room Experience
Don’t expect sprawling suites — this is Amsterdam, where space is premium and character trumps size. My room had that typical canal house charm with exposed beams and windows that actually open (you know how rare that’s becoming in hotels). The beds are comfortable enough, and there’s decent storage considering the building’s age. What surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, despite being right in the shopping area.
Practical Considerations
The staff here really knows their neighborhood — they’ll point you toward the best stroopwafel stand or tell you which restaurant actually serves locals instead of just tourists. There’s no fancy lobby to speak of, but honestly, you’re not here to hang around the hotel anyway. The whole vibe is more like staying at a friend’s place who happens to live in the most enviable location in Amsterdam.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t about thread counts or marble bathrooms — it’s about waking up in the heart of historic Amsterdam and stepping out your door into those postcard-perfect streets. The 8.8 rating makes total sense when you factor in the location, the authentic Dutch hospitality, and the fact that you’re getting genuine neighborhood access rather than tourist hotel isolation. If you want to feel like you’re actually living in Amsterdam for a few days rather than just visiting it, Nine Streets Inn delivers on that promise without breaking the bank.

What Our Guests Say
Amazing location, great host and comfortable space. The location is amazing. Michel had the room ready for us early and offered extra coffee for us since we were still adjusting from our flight. Great communication and very kind host. The room was clean, shower worked well and we loved all the windows! So much natural light and blackout curtains when you need them. Thanks Michel.
What could be improved: Luckily we didn’t need AC. In warmer weather I could see that being an issue. Slightly loud on the street side at nights, but that’s a part of being at such a central location close to everything. Could maybe use a couple extra soft pillows.
Exceptional slope on the floor
What could be improved: maybe a bit hot in the evening
Lovely time, great weather, enjoyed the restaurant near location Very nice room at a great location and a nice and friendly host
What could be improved: Entrance from the street somewhat obscure and typical Amsterdam steep staircase.
Very much enjoyed our stay Friendly host living on the premises, excellent location
What could be improved: Steep stairs
Very good The central location
Excellent stay and would define stay again. The location of the property is perfect so central. The rooms are to a high standard and the host was so friendly and welcoming. We took both rooms as a family. Very safe and secure.
What could be improved: The only issue for some people maybe the stairs - they’re quite steep but they were no problem for us as we have no mobility issues.
Lovely weekend in Amsterdam staying there Michel is really friendly and helpful. The room was really nice and well located. Great for a couple weekend
What could be improved: Minor details: the fridge wasn’t cold even after 24h on, and the windows system (typical of Amsterdam flats) are not the best when it’s windy (make a lot of noises)
lovely room in a fantastic location. The location was excellent - in the old canal district. Easy access to tram network, also a few minutes walk from the airport express bus stop. Room was lovely - immaculate, well appointed. Good coffee maker. The host was excellent - very welcoming and helpful.
What could be improved: There is a very steep narrow staircase to get to the room, so for someone with mobility issues it would be difficult. But this is normal for the houses in this part of the city. The host helped carry the luggage up for us, which was great.
Great location to stay in Amsterdam. Great location. Extremely friendly people - very helpful as we had an unrelated baggage issue. Great folks.
What could be improved: Liked everything. yes - it is a steep staircase, but manageable.
Lovely stay! Nice, friendly, responsive host! Great location to shops and cafes, well-appointed, easy to find, comfortable bedding, thoughtful touches inside rooms, very clean and tidy. Everything was as indicated in listing.
What could be improved: No complaints :)
