First Impressions
Morgan & Mees Amsterdam sits on a quiet tree-lined street in the Westerpark district, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. The building has this understated elegance — no flashy signage or marble lobby, just clean lines and large windows that hint at something special inside. I appreciated that it feels more like a sophisticated boutique hotel than a tourist magnet, which is exactly what you want in Amsterdam.
The Neighborhood
Westerpark is one of those areas that locals actually live in, you know? It’s about a 10-minute walk to Jordaan and maybe 15 minutes to the city center, but it feels refreshingly removed from the crowds around Dam Square. There’s this great park right nearby where you can actually sit on the grass without dodging tour groups, and the cafés along the way serve coffee to people in business attire rather than just backpackers. The tram connections are solid too — line 3 gets you downtown quickly when you need it.
The Room Experience
My room was what I’d call thoughtfully minimal — not sparse, but every piece seemed to serve a purpose. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually works well. What struck me most was the attention to lighting; they’ve got multiple options so you’re not stuck with harsh overhead bulbs or dim bedside lamps that make reading impossible. The soundproofing impressed me too, considering we’re still in a busy European city.
Service and Amenities
The staff here strikes that perfect balance between helpful and not hovering. They know the neighborhood well — I got some excellent dinner recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. There’s a small restaurant on-site that serves breakfast and light meals, though I found myself eating out most of the time because the area has so many good options. The parking situation is handled through a nearby garage, which is about as good as it gets in Amsterdam.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star place gets a 9.1 rating because it delivers on the fundamentals without trying too hard to impress. You’re not paying for amenities you won’t use or a location that’s “central” but chaotic. Instead, you get a well-designed space in a genuinely livable part of the city, with staff who seem to actually care about your stay. It’s the kind of place where you can imagine staying for a week without getting tired of it — which, honestly, is rarer than you’d think in Amsterdam’s hotel scene.
Exploring Amsterdam blends gabled houses, world-class museums, and vibrant neighborhoods glowing with canal lights.

What Our Guests Say
Cute hotel. The hotel and staff were great.
Very good What could be improved: Value for money is not in balance
I would definitely stay here again as it was everything I want, and more, in accommodations. Amazing location in a great neighbourhood and also really close to the tram to be able to explore other parts of Amsterdam. The restaurant downstairs had a good selection of great food. The staff were helpful and friendly. The bed was comfortable and room and bathroom quite nice and very clean.
What could be improved: Nothing really. I just made sure to walk up and down the narrow, winding stairs carefully. But that is typical in most buildings in Amsterdam.
The location is ideal. The property is charming and the staff is friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for exploring the canals, Anne Frank Haus, museums and restaurants on foot. The property is a small, quaint boutique hotel with comfortable accommodations and good food and bar onsite. It’s so cute and a great place to recharge. We had a little balcony where we could sit and enjoy a glass of wine and watch the cyclists and hustle and bustle of the city. Kate provided lots of great info to help us improve our itinerary.
I will come back. Great to be just outside of the centre of AMS. Great spot. Nice restaurant. Amazing staff.
I would go back.
Very lovely. Staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. well appointed, comfortable bed, very friendly and accommodating staff
What could be improved: The staircase up to the sleeping loft.
Lovely few days in Amsterdam Friendly and helpful staff.
Excellent hotel Our room was on the top floor, clean and comfortable. Complimentary snacks and water and drink on arrival. Staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. Breakfast recommended. Located away from hustle of central Amsterdam.
What could be improved: Hotel was 30 mins walk from Central Station. If you arrive with luggage, take a cab to the hotel. Without the luggage it's a lovely walk into the main area.
Great staff, great facilities, and awesome location Cute property, great bar and restaurant and well appointed room. Great location
