The Experience

Max Brown Hotel Museum Square, part of Sircle Collection

First Impressions Walking into Max Brown Hotel Museum Square, part of Sircle Collection feels like stepping into your artsy friend's really well-designed apartment.

First Impressions

Walking into Max Brown Hotel Museum Square, part of Sircle Collection feels like stepping into your artsy friend’s really well-designed apartment. The lobby has this cool, understated vibe — think exposed brick, vintage furniture, and carefully curated art pieces that actually make sense together. It’s not trying too hard to impress, which honestly makes it more impressive than those stuffy chain hotels.

Perfect Museum Quarter Location

You know what’s great about staying on Jan Luijkenstraat? You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum — I mean, you can see tourists with their museum maps from the hotel entrance. But here’s the insider bit: you’re also right next to some of Amsterdam‘s best local cafés that most visitors never find. The Concertgebouw is just around the corner too, so if you’re into classical music, you’ve hit the jackpot.

The Room Experience

The rooms have this modern-meets-vintage thing going on that actually works. My room had these huge windows that flooded the space with natural light, plus really comfortable bedding that didn’t feel generic. The bathroom was compact but thoughtfully designed — none of that awkward fumbling for towels or trying to figure out the shower controls. They’ve clearly put thought into the small stuff, like having enough outlets near the bed and proper blackout curtains.

Food and Social Spaces

The breakfast setup is solid without being fancy — fresh pastries, good coffee, and they don’t skimp on the Dutch cheese selection. There’s a cozy bar area where you’ll find a mix of hotel guests and locals, which gives the place a genuine neighborhood feel. The restaurant serves contemporary European food that’s well-executed, though I’d also recommend exploring the incredible dining scene just outside your door.

Why Guests Love It

This three-star hotel gets it right by focusing on what matters: location, comfort, and character. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers a genuinely pleasant stay in one of Amsterdam’s most cultural neighborhoods. The staff knows the area well and gives solid recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned to explore the museum quarter on foot, then retreat to a space that feels more like a boutique hideaway than a typical hotel.

Superb The staff was very friendly

What could be improved: The room smelled of damp rust in bathroom makes on walls and dog hairs on sofa

Perfect location, great style Unique style, right on museum quarter, 1 minute walk to the canal, easy access to trams

What could be improved: Rooms are very small, but you don’t spend much time in them on a city break anyway

We would happily stay there again. Front desk staff were very nice and helped me with their first aid kit when i got a s Excellent location - next to parks and museums. easy walk to bus or tram or city center

What could be improved: small curved staircase and small elevator, but it is to be expected on an old building and we managed fine

Highly recommend for the location, sweet receptionist. Enjoyed my stay Very clean, location was incredible, hospitable staff. Easy access to tram and bus, parks, museums. Booked the medium room and the aircon was working really well. I broke the bathroom glass by mistake and the staff was courteous enough to be very okay with it.

What could be improved: Wasn't communicated that housekeeping is every alternate day. Only found out when room wasn't cleaned. On alternate day when staff cleaned, they only cleaned bathroom and didn't make the bed. While cleaning, they left my room door open (major error) - staff was apologetic about it and genuinely remorseful.

Good value, clean and friendly hotel in fantastic location, just be prepared for small beds. Great location in a quiet part of the city. Lovely reception staff. Room clean and great bathroom, albeit compact. Rooms have kettle, fan, safe and hanging space.

What could be improved: Beds are incredibly small, singles are just 2ft wide in the small twin rooms. Also sockets are limited, I had to hold the kettle whilst it boiled as no socket elsewhere. Finally nowhere to store folded clothes, or lift suitcase off the floor.

What could be improved: The room for three was a bit small but lovely nonetheless. There was no aircon

Pleasant and helpful staffs with excellent breakfast! Easy access, AC equipped during hot day is very welcome. Can beat the location ~ museums, trams and restaurants are few to be named.

What could be improved: No ~ as been to Amsterdam many times, this is the standard room size in the area.

A joyful few nights at Max Brown It’s a perfect spot if you want to see the museums and right next to Vondle Park. It was a half hour walk to the centre but it is filled with shops, bars/restaurants while you’re on your way.

What could be improved: The rooms are a lot smaller than you would imagine. It was tight for two of us, but perfect for a couple nights if you’re mainly out and about.
