First Impressions
Walking up to House of Amstel on a quiet stretch of the Amstel River, you’ll notice it doesn’t scream for attention like some hotels do. The building has this understated elegance that feels authentically Amsterdam — tall, narrow windows and classic Dutch architecture that blends seamlessly with the historic canal houses nearby. It’s the kind of place where you immediately think, “okay, these people know what they’re doing.”
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally steps from the Amstel River, but you’re not drowning in tourist crowds. Amsterdam City Centre is right there, which means you can walk to Rembrandtplein in about five minutes, but when you want to escape the madness, you just slip back to this quieter pocket. The Waterlooplein metro station is a short walk away, and honestly, having that connection makes exploring beyond the center so much easier than I expected.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had this perfect balance — modern comfort without losing that Amsterdam character. Large windows (thank goodness) let in plenty of light, and the view of the canal activity below was genuinely entertaining. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, which seems to be the Amsterdam way. What impressed me most was the attention to sound insulation — you’d think being near the water and city center would be noisy, but it really wasn’t.
Dining & Daily Rhythms
The breakfast situation is solid — not fancy, but fresh and substantial enough to fuel a day of walking around the city. There’s a cozy restaurant area that works well for a casual dinner too, though honestly, with so many great spots within walking distance, I found myself venturing out most evenings. The staff seemed to genuinely enjoy recommending local places, which always feels like a good sign.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star property hits that sweet spot where everything works without feeling pretentious. The 8.8 rating makes sense when you experience how smoothly everything runs — from check-in to the little details like decent WiFi and helpful local tips from the front desk. You’re paying for a real Amsterdam experience rather than a generic hotel stay, and that distinction matters more than you might think when you’re planning a trip to this city.
To book a hotel in Amsterdam during King’s Day, visitors plan ahead to balance orange-clad street parties with quiet Jordaan strolls.

What Our Guests Say
Excellent clean centre to everything. I’m very, very comfortable. I was very apprehensive about staying here because when I looked at the reviews people were saying it was horrible. There was a smell in the bathroom. The people didn’t turn up to let you in and lots of negative things. I would just like to say this is the most amazing place to stay. It’s clean Hanna who let us in is very friendly couldn’t do enough for us. Not only did they provide tea and coffee they left us some biscuits some sweets water in the fridge and some Coca-Cola we were in the middle of everywhere it was so handy to get to every destination. It is a beautiful place to stay.
What could be improved: There was nothing I didn’t like about this property. It was lovely.
Exceptional Rooftop balcony
Quiet location close enough to hustle and bustle of centre.
Exceptional Close to everywhere
Very nice Great location
What could be improved: The stairs are steep and narrow
Good Ver nice
What could be improved: Stairs are a bit difficult
Perfect location. Helpful staff :) Amazing view! Very quiet (thick windows), considering you overlook a busy street/canal. Hana and Mohammed were very friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: I could manage fine, but the stairs were steep and tight.
Nice canal view The location was great. There was lots to do all around the apartment, restaurants, bars and entertainment. Everywhere is walkable.
What could be improved: The 31 steep narrow stairs. I would have liked a washing machine.
Superb First of all, I wanna take Mohammd the guy who gave us the key and do you know help us with everything he’s such a great guy and he does his work so well
Mohammed was very nice, professional and helpful. He helped with our luggage and gave us tips and advice around the city Renovated in a contemporary way. Kept maintained and clean. Very well serviced
What could be improved: Steep staircase to top floor
Exceptional We stayed in the studio with canal view. It was gorgeous, very true to the photos on the website. The 2 members of staff we met were fantastic. I was a bit nervous when I realised, after booking, that we would need to ring someone when we arrived (obviously I didn't read all the information before booking) But there was no need to worry. The phone call was answered straight away, and someone was there to meet us within 5 minutes. Communication was via WhatsApp after that - staff were very responsive.
It's a great location - on the edge of The Canal Belt and De Wallen, lots of restaurants and bars 2 minutes walk away on Rembrandtplein.
We would definitely stay here again.
