First Impressions

Walking up to B&B Felix on Gerard Doustraat, you immediately get that “this is exactly what I was hoping for” feeling. It’s one of those four-star places that doesn’t try too hard — just a beautifully restored Amsterdam building that feels authentically local rather than touristy. The entrance has this understated elegance that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even though honestly, plenty of savvy travelers have already figured out this gem.

The Perfect Amsterdam Address

Here’s what I love about the location — you’re right in the heart of Amsterdam but on a street that actually feels livable. Gerard Doustraat runs through Amsterdam Zuid, which means you get that perfect mix of local cafés, vintage shops, and tree-lined canals without the tourist crowds. The Rijksmuseum is literally a ten-minute walk away, and you can reach the city center in about fifteen minutes on foot. What really sold me though was how easy it is to pop over to Vondelpark for a morning jog or afternoon picnic — it’s right there.

The Room Experience

Each room feels thoughtfully designed rather than just decorated, if that makes sense. The spaces aren’t huge — this is Amsterdam, after all — but they’re cleverly laid out with high ceilings that make everything feel more spacious. I particularly appreciated the mix of modern amenities with period details like original hardwood floors and tall windows that flood the space with natural light. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathrooms are well-appointed without being flashy.

Local Touches That Matter

What sets B&B Felix apart is how it connects you to the neighborhood rather than isolating you from it. The staff — and I mean this — actually know the area and can point you toward that little cheese shop around the corner or the best spot for bitterballen nearby. There’s no formal restaurant on-site, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. You’re surrounded by incredible local dining options, from cozy brown cafés to trendy bistros that locals actually frequent. The breakfast setup is simple but quality-focused, with fresh pastries from a nearby bakery and proper Dutch coffee.

Why Guests Love It

The location score of 9.6 isn’t just a number — it reflects how this place positions you perfectly for exploring Amsterdam like someone who actually lives here. Couples especially seem to get it, probably because there’s something romantic about staying somewhere that feels more like a stylish friend’s place than a typical hotel. You’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the chaos of the Red Light District or Dam Square to actually get some sleep. Plus, there’s something satisfying about telling people you stayed in Amsterdam Zuid — it shows you know what you’re doing.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Amsterdam before autumn brings golden leaves, pumpkin soups, and cozy canal reflections.

FAIR priced stay in de pijp, Amsterdam Location,Quietness lots of restaurants in area

What could be improved: Room, shower to small for elderly people, koffie maker placed in awkward position to use

Loved the neighborhood, has a wonderful nearby coffeehouse that opens at 6 am, +Felix was very kind. There was no breakfast and effectively not even coffee because coffee maker was not really accessible - required you to kneel on floor to fill from bathroom then struggle to see/access equipment to prepare or get coffee; this we didn’t use, always went out. Would also have appreciated at least a couple usable plates/bowls/ silverware so could eat there sometimes. We used refrigerator regularly and that was good.

What could be improved: It’s very dark, have never stayed somewhere that had no windows. We did finally start opening the back door curtains that accessed the little patio, but it faced right into the other tenants’ bedroom so we weren’t comfortable doing that when they were there. Also, another wastebasket would have been nice so didn’t have to constantly keep emptying the tiny one - not a big deal, but you asked.

A beautiful place to stay in Amsterdam A really cute and beautifully decorated accommodation in a lovely De Pijp, close to the metro, a bunch of nice cafes and a bustling street market. Super comfy bed on top! A

What could be improved: A really tiny sink in the toilet room is a but unpractical and leads to a nearly constant tiny puddle on the floor

Lovely room, finished to a high quality. Felix was very welcoming and helpful. Great room in a lovely part of the city and Felix is so friendly.

What could be improved: There is a ensuite with a shower and sink, but for the toilet you had to walk into the public corridor area (it is a private toilet)

Fantastic location and host! Felix, the owner, was very accommodating, responsive, and helpful. The location was fantastic!

What could be improved: The bathroom in one of the rooms was a bit small, but it's pretty normal for Amsterdam.

Stylish place to stay in buzzy De Pijp Great location for the liveliness of De Pijp, stylish, warm and very comfortable room, with access to a pleasant outdoor courtyard which would be nice in warmer months. Great to stay in such a special place. Felix very friendly and helpful.

What could be improved: The shower temperature was not quite hot enough but a plumber was booked whilst we were there to resolve it.

Great location, quiet place in a fun neighborhood Great location, quiet place in a bustling neighborhood. Comfortable bed. mini fridge and chromecast TV we’re a nice surprise

What could be improved: The toilet is not attached to the room. Wasn’t a huge deal, but this should be advertised on the listing somehow. The room was also pretty stuffy, no way to ventilate without leaving the door to the shared patio open

Amazing location This is a wonderful place in a wonderful location. The hosts are super kind and responsive. It was close to everything.

What could be improved: One issue only: the toilet is down the hall, in a tiny room under the stairs. You need to leave your hotel room to go to it. The lock sticks. Just be aware of this, and everything else about this place is perfect
