The Experience

Hotel V Frederiksplein

First Impressions Hotel V Frederiksplein sits right on one of Amsterdam's more understated squares, and honestly, that's part of its charm.

First Impressions

Hotel V Frederiksplein sits right on one of Amsterdam’s more understated squares, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. The building has this sleek, modern vibe that feels refreshingly different from all the historic canal houses you see everywhere else in the city. When I first walked up, I was struck by how the glass facade actually works well with the surrounding architecture — it’s contemporary but not trying too hard to make a statement.

Location & Neighborhood

You’re basically in the sweet spot here, tucked between the Museum Quarter and the buzzing Leidseplein area. Frederiksplein itself is this quiet little square that most tourists walk right past, which means you get the calm without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. The Rijksmuseum is maybe a ten-minute walk, and you can easily stroll to the Vondelpark when you need some green space. What I really appreciated was having the tram stops so close — line 4 is right there when you want to explore other parts of the city.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed, which is exactly what you’d expect from a three-star place in Amsterdam where space is always at a premium. The bed was actually comfortable (sometimes you wonder with boutique hotels), and the bathroom had a decent shower with good water pressure. The windows are large, so you get plenty of natural light, and if you’re on the square side, you can people-watch from your window — though it’s never too noisy since Frederiksplein doesn’t get the late-night crowds.

Dining & Common Areas

The ground floor restaurant has this relaxed, almost living room-like atmosphere that works well for both hotel guests and locals dropping by. I grabbed breakfast there a couple of mornings, and while it’s not elaborate, they do good coffee and fresh pastries. The lobby area sort of flows into the dining space, which creates this nice social vibe where you might end up chatting with other travelers or even Amsterdam residents who come in for lunch.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Hotel V Frederiksplein isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in Amsterdam, and that’s exactly why it works. You’re getting solid comfort in a genuinely good location without paying Museum Quarter hotel prices. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward the less obvious spots worth checking out. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals might actually recommend, rather than just another tourist hotel that happens to be in Amsterdam.

Nice hotel good for transport around Amsterdam. It was close to tramlines to the centre and the Rijksmuseum. The staff, including Simon from Sardinia, were very helpful. It was useful that we received a tip over the internet from the hotel to upgrade our room as there were some very dark basement rooms. The breakfast was good.

What could be improved: The colour scheme of the rooms was a bit gloomy. Lighted walls would give a better impression.

Nice hotel, great staff, better to connect the buildings to one The location was very nice, the shower was very nice, the TV was good.

What could be improved: The fact we didnt stayed in the main building, we stayed in an apartment building outside in the garden. That was a bummer because we hoped we stayed in the main building.

Comfortable Perfect location. I ve visited Amsterdam for an exhibition at RAI and it was so easy to reach to Rai, Airport and City Center with only one dircet tram which is next to hotel.
My first room was a panthouse but it was so clostrophobic but the staff helped me and changed it to a flat room with a good view. They were very helpful. This was my second stay at that hotel and for my future visits I will prefer this hotel if the prices will not be so expensive

What could be improved: Voice of trams coming to room all day and night except some hours after midnight.
Bath is difficult to use, there is a half glass dor for shower and since the bathroom is very small all floor gets wet when you took a shower

Good location and clean. Location and reception area were great.

What could be improved: Rooms were very small and the pictures were quite misleading. Shower wasn’t hot and rooms were too small and needed a bit of upgrading.

Really helpful staff, lovely room, lovely reception and provided a nice glass of bubbly and stroopwaffles! Lovely hotel, secure bag storage and very helpful staff

What could be improved: Scam messages through booking.com - not necessarily the hotels fault but as a business it’s unacceptable
