First Impressions

Walking into Hotel The Bird feels like stumbling into someone’s stylish Amsterdam apartment — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and a thing for clever design touches. The lobby’s compact but there’s something immediately welcoming about it, maybe it’s the way natural light filters through those big windows facing the Amstel river. You know what struck me most? The staff actually remembers your name after one conversation, which honestly doesn’t happen much anymore.

Prime Amsterdam Real Estate

Here’s the thing about the location — you’re literally steps from the Amstel river on one side and a quick walk to Rembrandtplein on the other. I mean, Amsterdam doesn’t get much more central than this without paying double the price. The Magere Brug (that famous skinny bridge everyone photographs) is practically your backyard view. What I love is that you can walk to the Rijksmuseum in about fifteen minutes, but you’re also surrounded by those cozy brown cafés that locals actually frequent.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was smaller than American standards — but this is Amsterdam, space is precious. What they’ve done with that space though, that’s impressive. Everything has a purpose, from the built-in desk that doubles as a nightstand to the bathroom that somehow feels spacious despite being compact. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the soundproofing is solid considering you’re in the heart of the city.

Food and Neighborhood Eats

The hotel restaurant serves a decent breakfast, nothing fancy but fresh bread and good coffee — which is really all you need before exploring. But honestly, the real draw is stepping outside your door into one of Amsterdam’s best eating neighborhoods. There’s this little Indonesian place two blocks over that the concierge recommended, and I ended up going back twice. The area comes alive at night too, with enough options that you’ll never eat at the same spot twice if you don’t want to.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this three-star hotel won’t wow you with a spa or room service, but it nails the essentials that matter when you’re actually exploring a city. The location means you’re walking everywhere instead of figuring out trams, the staff gives genuinely helpful local tips, and there’s free wifi that actually works. It’s the kind of place where you spend your days out discovering Amsterdam and come back to a clean, comfortable room that feels like a proper base, not just somewhere to crash. For the price point in this neighborhood, that’s pretty much exactly what you want.

Superb Excellent location, easy walking distance to everything, including the Metro.
Very welcoming staff. Nice room - we selected one with a canal view which was great.

What could be improved: The only negative was a decorative window in the room that couldn’t open and that didn’t have a blind or curtain to shut out light at night.

We loved Amsterdam. The central location was excellent Great location. Beautiful view. Friendly and helpful staff

What could be improved: Toilet access was tight! Morbidly obese people would not have toilet access! Beds were narrow- stretcher width

Comfortable and great location with a lift! Great location!

What could be improved: Only 1 key per room which makes it difficult for 2 people. The key must be engaged for electricity. Therefore both people must leave at same time.

Very good Location and great view though small window

What could be improved: Small rooms and small window

I would definitely recommend this hotel. Great location! This hotel is in a great location! Walking to several restaurants, bars in Rembrandt Plaza. Located across from Canal. Elevator made it very convenient with luggage.
Hotel Staff very friendly & efficient.

What could be improved: It’s a bit noisy but considering location I don’t think it can be helped. There is coffee and tea in lobby which is very nice. If it could be open at 6am it would be great. There is a kettle in the room if you’d like to make instant coffee or tea.

Ideal location Ideal location, clean premises and comfortable beds. Pleasant staff.

What could be improved: Small step into bathroom is a bit of a hazard at night so we left the bathroom light on to prevent a trip hazard.

Great location Fantastic location
Central to most tourist sites. ICE Bar 5 min walk
Little store 2 door down for drinks and snacks.
Has a bar fridge and aircon and a lift
Newly renovated bathroom

What could be improved: Room 43
Tiny room.
Only canal views if your 7ft🤣
Beds were hard but my partner said they ok so it’s a preference thing.
We had to cover bathroom window off as building next door could see straight in
But hey… it’s Amsterdam and most places are old and small

Comfortable and cosy Good location and helpful staff. Arrived early (midday’ish) expecting to just drop off our suitcase but the room was ready and we were able to check in right away. Good walk in shower with drencher head as well as a smaller hand held shower head.
The hotel is in a good location close to the tram service (Trams 4 & 14 which go to and from Grand Central Station) and lots of cafe bars.

What could be improved: Small room and bathroom but I guess there is limited space in most of Amsterdam’s small hotels. No view as only looking out onto a small enclosed courtyard but having already paid £170 for the night didn’t fancy paying more just to have a view over the street and canal.
