First Impressions

You know what caught me off guard about Botel? It’s literally a floating hotel moored at NDSM-Pier 3 in Amsterdam Noord — I mean, how often do you get to sleep on the water without booking a cruise? This three-star converted boat sits right on the IJ river, and honestly, the whole concept feels refreshingly different from your typical Amsterdam hotel experience. The industrial backdrop of the old NDSM shipyard creates this cool, edgy vibe that somehow works perfectly with the floating accommodation.

The Noord Adventure

Here’s the thing about staying in Amsterdam Noord — it’s not touristy chaos, which I actually loved. You’ll need to take a quick (and free!) ferry ride from Central Station, but that becomes part of the charm rather than a hassle. The area has this creative, up-and-coming energy with street art everywhere and locals who aren’t tired of tourists yet. Couples seem to really get this location — they’ve rated it 8.9, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being on the water, away from the crowded canals but still connected to the city center.

Life Aboard

My room was compact but cleverly designed — you can feel the gentle movement of the water, which is either soothing or slightly disorienting depending on your sea legs. The portholes instead of regular windows add to that authentic boat atmosphere, though don’t expect massive spaces. What impressed me was how they’ve managed to fit everything you need without it feeling cramped. The whole floating hotel concept means you’re literally surrounded by water views, and watching the city lights reflect on the IJ at night is pretty special.

Morning Fuel

Breakfast happens in the main area of the boat, and they’ve got both continental and buffet options — nothing fancy, but solid fuel for exploring the city. I actually enjoyed eating while gently rocking on the water; it beats staring at another hotel lobby wall. The restaurant area doubles as a social space where you’ll meet other travelers who were curious enough to try something different. Pro tip: grab your coffee and head to the deck if weather permits — starting your day on the water with Amsterdam’s skyline in view sets a pretty good tone.

Why Guests Love It

Recent guests have rated the location 9.1, and I get it — you’re experiencing Amsterdam from a completely different perspective. The novelty factor is real, but it’s not just a gimmick; the Botel delivers on comfort while offering something genuinely unique. Parking isn’t really an issue since you’ll likely be using public transport anyway, and the ferry connection makes getting around surprisingly easy. It’s perfect for travelers who want to try something different without sacrificing convenience or breaking the bank on Amsterdam’s notoriously expensive accommodation scene.

Superb We stayed in the letter B, we enjoyed everything about it! It was clean, it was very very comfortable, and easily accessible due to the free regular ferry! The skateboards were a cool extra, we just used it as base mainly as we were out alot but was great and would stay again!

What could be improved: The only negatives I could think of is they provided tea and coffee etc but no milk but we could have easily got some if we was planning to be back there for a longer period than we was.
And it said there was a games console and TV on middle floor but that wasn't there when we was there, however that didn't affect us in any way as we wasn't there for that!
We lived absolutely everything

Very, very, very enjoyable Loved the room we stayed in (The O) and my Wife and I had a very, very good time there for my birthday

What could be improved: First staff member we interacted with was stand offish and a bit rude but other staff members made up for it. The room could of done with a lick of paint

Sleepless but wonderful. The staff where very friendly. All of them. Full of smiles and happy to see us. The duvets were lovely and thick. The windows opening fully was an absolute bonus. A decent drink section in the bar downstairs with tables that have charger ports in them. That was fantastic.

What could be improved: The bunk beds are honestly horrible to sleep on. If your on bottom bunk you can’t sit up as it is too close to the top bunk. Only one pillow was horrible to sleep with. No kettle or any form of drink making things. The vending machine is really overpriced. The buffet breakfast didn’t have enough choice and the bacon was extremely fatty and greasy.
