First Impressions
Hotel Omega sits on Jacob Obrechtstraat in one of those tree-lined streets that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into the real Amsterdam — not the tourist version. It’s a three-star place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which honestly feels refreshing after seeing so many hotels oversell themselves. The building has that classic Amsterdam brick facade, and when I walked up, I noticed they’d kept the original details intact while clearly updating everything that actually matters.
The Oud Zuid Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re in Oud Zuid, which means you get the charm without the chaos of the city center. The Concertgebouw is literally a five-minute walk away, and if you’re into museum-hopping, the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum are close enough that you’ll probably end up there multiple times. What really sold me on this area though is Vondelpark being right there — I mean, you can grab coffee and actually sit somewhere green without fighting crowds.
The Room Experience
My room was on the second floor, and while it wasn’t huge, everything felt thoughtfully arranged. The bed was surprisingly comfortable — one of those things you don’t realize matters until you’re actually trying to sleep. They’ve got decent Wi-Fi (tested it, obviously), and the bathroom was modern enough without feeling sterile. The windows open properly too, which you’d think would be standard but isn’t always the case in Amsterdam hotels.
Practical Details That Matter
The breakfast situation is solid — nothing fancy, but they actually have good coffee and fresh bread, which covers the basics I care about. There’s a small restaurant area where you can eat dinner if you don’t feel like venturing out, though honestly, with all the great spots in this neighborhood, you probably will. Parking is available but you’ll pay for it — though that’s pretty much Amsterdam in a nutshell.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Hotel Omega work is that it knows exactly what it is. It’s clean, comfortable, and located in one of the better residential areas of the city. The staff actually seems to know the neighborhood well — they pointed me toward a great local cafe that I never would’ve found otherwise. For the price point and that 8.8 rating, it delivers on the promise of being a decent base for exploring Amsterdam without the downtown hotel prices or noise. You’re not getting marble bathrooms or a rooftop bar, but you’re getting a genuine Amsterdam experience in a neighborhood where locals actually live.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Amsterdam before autumn brings golden leaves, pumpkin soups, and cozy canal reflections.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Excellent
What could be improved: Nothing
Highly recommend! Great staff and interiors throughout the hotel were lovely. Comfortable bed and good sized rooms. In a great location with fabulous restaurants/ pubs down the street. Would definitely stay again.
Really enjoyed staying here, the staff were super nice and the room was so beautiful. Felt very special. Super comfy and nice location, with friendly staff
What could be improved: The bathroom was a bit small, especially the shower
Thank you for always making sure we had a wonderful time, we appreciate everything you did for us. The staff and the breakfast was incredible. The chef on our last day was outstanding, please make sure my gratitude for his service is passed on to him.
What could be improved: None
Comfy cosy room Comfortable bed and pillows in the cosy room! Great vibe though it's a small space and clean overall :)
What could be improved: Bathroom was quite tight to move around in but manageable.
Would recommend and will stay again in the future Great staff, great location. The hotel is tidy and quiet. Would recommend!
What could be improved: The pillows were very comfortable but a little too big
Great location, lovely staff, clean (but typical small) modern rooms and great breakfast buffet The breakfast buffet had an excellent selection of a wide variety of breakfast items: fruit, yogurt, cereals, breads and pastries, cheeses and meats, hard and soft boiled eggs, bacon and endless cups of specialty coffees. It seemed expensive until I realized that it cost just twice as much as one cappuccino and a croissant at a neighborhood cafe. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Great location very close to the major art museums and tram/bus stops. In a less touristy neighborhood with cafés and restaurants frequented by locals.
Comfy bed and nice shower.
What could be improved: We visited just as the cooler fall temperatures began and put up with a somewhat chilly room until we discovered that the radiator was hidden behind the curtains in front of the windows. Expensive for such small rooms but to be expected in Amsterdam.
Superb Breakfast was good according to our friends ( we booked but couldn’t go) . Position was excellent .
Very good Beautiful building, lovely staff, the breakfast was great
What could be improved: No fridge in room
Exceptional We liked how warm and inviting the staff were, and the old world feel in lobby area. The breakfast is a must, so much selection and delicious. The cook is very friendly, welcoming, and personable. The location is fantastic, minutes walk to major museums and tramway. Room was quaint and cozy and offered all amenities of comfortable accommodation. Would definitely stay on a return to Amsterdam.
What could be improved: Stairway was steep and narrow, which may be difficult for some. However, there is an elevator if stairs are a problem.
