First Impressions

Walking into Hotel De Hallen, you immediately sense you’re somewhere special — this four-star property sits inside a converted 1902 tram depot, and honestly, the industrial architecture makes quite an entrance. The lobby feels airy and open, with those original high ceilings and exposed brick that Amsterdam does so well. It’s polished but not stuffy, which pretty much sets the tone for your entire stay.

The Oud-West Experience

This hotel nails the location game — you’re in Oud-West, which locals will tell you is where Amsterdam actually lives and breathes. Bellamyplein feels residential but not boring, and you can walk to Vondelpark in about five minutes when you need some green space. The Foodhallen (literally next door in the same building complex) becomes your best friend for casual dining, plus there’s this great local coffee culture happening just outside your door that most tourists never discover.

Your Room Setup

The room design strikes this nice balance between industrial heritage and modern comfort — think exposed concrete softened by warm wood accents and quality textiles. I mean, they’ve managed to make a former tram depot feel cozy, which isn’t exactly easy. The bathrooms are compact but well-planned, and you know what really works? The soundproofing is actually decent, considering you’re in a busy part of the city.

Food and Social Spaces

Here’s where Hotel De Hallen gets interesting — the breakfast spread happens in their restaurant space, and it’s more thoughtful than your typical hotel buffet. Local cheeses, fresh bread that actually tastes like something, and coffee that doesn’t make you wince. The bar area becomes genuinely social in the evenings, partly because the whole Foodhallen complex draws an interesting mix of locals and travelers who aren’t afraid to strike up conversations.

Why Guests Love It

What really sells this place is how it feels connected to actual Amsterdam life rather than tourist Amsterdam. You’ll find yourself chatting with neighbors at the local bakery, discovering that perfect brown café two streets over, and using the tram system like you actually live here. The staff seems to get this too — they’re generous with neighborhood recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots, and the parking situation (if you’re driving) is handled smoothly through their partnership system.

We had a great time in Amsterdam, and everywhere is walkable We didn't have the breakfast as we wanted to explore the Amsterdam cafe-culture

What could be improved: No windows in the room, but as it was in a converted tram shed that had to be accepted.

Beautiful hotel in a charming part of Bruges. Beautiful building with so much character and charm. Our room had a view of the courtyard and was comfortable and quiet. We loved the hotel bikes available to borrow, we biked all over town and felt like locals riding them.

Will come again The hotel in Amsterdam was absolutely stunning — high ceilings, a uniquely designed room layout, and beautifully curated interiors throughout the entire place. Everything felt stylish yet comfortable. The only downside was that I couldn’t stay a little longer — it truly deserved more time to enjoy.

Spacious and comfortable stay with a great location, though it wasn’t possible to charge drinks to the room. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with a modern bathroom and a great shower. The bed was very comfy and perfect for a good night’s sleep. The location was excellent, especially convenient for the conference I was attending. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay.

What could be improved: Not much, but it wasn’t possible to charge drinks to the room.

Very good Stayed here with colleagues and had a great experience. Comfortable meeting room, plenty of breakout space, and lots of food/coffee options nearby. My room was clean with a spacious bathroom (atrium view means no daylight, but fine for a short stay). Very friendly staff, especially Maria at reception and the bar team. Would happily return!

Nice hotel, great location, but lacking some important things. Great location, easy to get everywhere and close to Den Hallen and other places to eat. Really comfy rooms and very nice and helpful staff

What could be improved: The room had no windows to outdoors which can be disorienting. The WiFi was terrible, they said they had just changed providers but I had to use my own data to make calls. The breakfast was very limited especially as a vegan.

A great place to stay in Amsterdam. The hotel is in the center of Amsterdam, yet it remains very quiet. The interior is very well furnished and clean. The staff is friendly. The space both inside and outside is fantastic.
