First Impressions

Walking up to City Hotel Amsterdam on Prins Hendrikkade, you’ll notice it sits right in the thick of things — and I mean that in the best way possible. The building has that classic Amsterdam charm without trying too hard, and honestly, the location hits you before you even step inside. You’re basically on the doorstep of Central Station, which sounds chaotic but actually works perfectly for getting around.

Location & Neighborhood

This three-star spot puts you smack in the middle of Amsterdam City Centre, and I can’t stress enough how much of a game-changer that is. The Red Light District is literally a three-minute walk — whether that’s a pro or con depends on what you’re after, but it’s definitely not boring. What I really love though is how close you are to the canals and all those postcard-perfect streets, plus the Nieuwmarkt area where locals actually hang out.

The Room Experience

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, functional, and surprisingly quiet considering you’re in the heart of everything. My room was compact (this is Amsterdam, after all), but they’ve made smart use of the space. The beds are comfortable enough, and you get decent Wi-Fi, which honestly matters more than fancy amenities when you’re out exploring all day.

Amenities & Practical Stuff

There’s a restaurant on-site that serves decent food, though with Amsterdam’s incredible dining scene right outside your door, I’d say use it mainly for breakfast or when you’re too tired to venture out. The staff actually knows the neighborhood well — they gave me some solid recommendations that weren’t just the usual tourist traps. Parking isn’t available at the hotel, but honestly, you don’t want a car in this part of the city anyway.

Here’s the thing — City Hotel Amsterdam isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s exactly why it works. You’re paying for the location and getting a clean, comfortable place to crash between adventures. I’ve stayed in fancier places in Amsterdam that felt sterile, but this one has personality. The value is solid for what you get, especially when you factor in that you can walk to most major attractions and save a fortune on transportation.
