First Impressions
Walking up to Charming Jordaan Apartment, Canal Views on Marnixkade, you’ll immediately understand why this three-star spot gets such high ratings. The building sits right on one of Amsterdam‘s prettier canals, and honestly, the views alone make it worth considering. I mean, you’re basically getting a front-row seat to that classic Amsterdam canal life — boats puttering by, cyclists zipping along the waterside paths, the whole scene.
The Neighborhood Advantage
The Jordaan is where locals actually want to live, not just where tourists end up by accident. You’ve got the Noordermarkt just a few blocks away — perfect for Saturday’s antique browsing or Monday’s organic produce shopping. What I really appreciate is how you can walk to the Anne Frank House in about ten minutes, but you’re far enough from the tourist madness to actually relax. The brown cafés around here serve proper Dutch beer without the inflated city center prices.
The Space Itself
The apartment setup works really well for anyone staying more than a couple nights. You get a proper kitchen (not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation), which means you can grab fresh ingredients from those local markets and actually cook something decent. The room faces the canal, so you wake up to water views instead of staring at someone’s laundry hanging across a courtyard. The space feels authentically Amsterdam — narrow stairs, charming quirks, but surprisingly functional once you settle in.
Practical Details That Matter
Look, parking in Amsterdam is basically a nightmare everywhere, so don’t expect miracles here. But you’re well connected by tram, and honestly, walking or cycling is how you want to experience this city anyway. The building’s old (this is Amsterdam, everything’s old), so if you’re expecting modern hotel amenities, adjust expectations accordingly. What you get instead is character — the kind of place where you feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it.
Why Guests Love It
That 8.7 rating makes sense once you spend a few days here. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — just a well-located, comfortable base in one of Amsterdam’s most livable neighborhoods. You’re getting canal views, local atmosphere, and enough space to spread out, all without paying those premium city center rates. For travelers who want to experience Amsterdam like a temporary resident rather than a tourist, this place hits the right notes.

What Our Guests Say
Superb
Very good Good location, clean and bright. Attentive owner/agent
What could be improved: Not so much didn’t like but…..it needed mirrors in each bedroom, some sort of storage in the front bedroom, bedside lamps, more saucepans, a TV and bedclothes could be better quality. In fairness to the owner/agent I said most of this when we were staying and s/he offered to come and drop off what we suggested. When all these little bits are rectified it will be a first class property to rent.
Superb The apartment is exactly as shown in the photos – beautiful, fully renovated, with an elegant and minimalist style.
The living area is stunning and very bright, thanks to the large windows overlooking the canal.
The kitchen is brand new, equipped with an induction hob, oven, and dishwasher. We needed a few extra pots, and the host – who was extremely kind and responsive – promptly brought them over.
The location is also very convenient: just 4 stops on bus 18 or 21 will take you straight to Central Station.
What could be improved: Everything was good
