First Impressions
The Amsterdam Canal Hotel sits right on Weteringschans, and honestly, the location caught me off guard in the best way. You’re basically on the edge of Amsterdam City Centre — close enough to walk everywhere that matters, but far enough from the Leidseplein chaos that you can actually sleep at night. It’s one of those three-star places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which I actually appreciate.
The Neighborhood Feel
What I love about this spot is how it feels properly Dutch rather than touristy. You’ve got the Singelgracht canal literally right there, and in the mornings you’ll see locals cycling to work instead of just groups with matching t-shirts taking selfies. The Rijksmuseum is maybe a 10-minute walk, and you can reach Vondelpark even faster — I mean, you can see the park from some of the upper floors.
The Room Experience
Look, the room sizes are what you’d expect from Amsterdam — compact but functional. The windows are tall and let in good light, which makes up for the smaller square footage. What surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, considering you’re still pretty central. The beds are comfortable enough, and there’s decent storage space if you’re strategic about packing.
Practical Details
The staff actually knows the neighborhood — they’ll steer you toward that little Indonesian place around the corner instead of just handing you a tourist map. There’s no fancy restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re in Amsterdam. Step outside and you’ve got options everywhere from brown cafés to those tiny stroopwafel stands. The breakfast is simple but gets the job done, and they don’t rush you out the door.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Amsterdam Canal Hotel — it’s got that sweet spot pricing where you’re not breaking the bank but you’re also not staying somewhere sketchy. You can walk to the major museums, hop on a tram to Central Station, or just wander the canals without dealing with the Red Light District crowds every time you leave your hotel. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, start your day with decent coffee, and spend your money on experiences instead of an overpriced hotel spa.

What Our Guests Say
Great Very good location, nice boutique hotel
What could be improved: Dirty spoon on the coffee cup saucer
All in all a great stay!! We loved the complimentary breakfast and daily happy hour - such a nice treat! A lovely patio to enjoy breakfast or a drink!
What could be improved: The stairs up to our room on the third floor were very steep. We managed fine but not a good choice for anyone with mobility issues! It was like going up a ladder!! The beauty of a canal house with wonderful history!
Fabulous, would highly recommend staying here, will be back for sure Great location, happy hour was a lovely touch , good breakfast options
What could be improved: Nothing
Superb Charming old house converted to hotel in quiet corner of Amsterdam. Close to central metro line.
What could be improved: Badly soundproofed unfortunately.
Good hotel in an excellent area. Great room with a very comfy bed. Bathroom was clean and nice, only problem was with the shower curtain. Plenty of room for all your stuff and luggage. Excellent location being in the centre, with multiple tram stops and train stations close by its very easy to get around the whole city.
What could be improved: The shower curtain wasn't long enough and the shower was small so the water would just flood out into the bathroom and into the bed area.
Overall a lovely stay and would definitely return. Location is perfect, our room was at the back of the hotel, looking over the canal, this was beautiful and also very quiet.
What could be improved: We weren’t told about a happy hour the hotel were doing but other guests were.
A gem of a hotel in the heart of beautiful Amsterdam 💖 Very boutique, lovely individual style. Our room was a lot bigger than it looked in the photo, which was quite a surprise. Nice cold fridge, balcony was a bonus too, roasting hot water!! The staff friendly and helpful. We didn't avail of the hotel's private happy hour, though we did get invited, we were out all day sightseeing so missed it.
What could be improved: Nothing really, all was very good. The water in the shower was scalding hot so you need to make sure you mix it to a temperature you need to before stepping into the shower, but that's just my preference.
Traditional Amsterdam House Our room was in an upper floor of the hotel and there are no lifts - so be prepared for a climb to the room. However, this is the beautiful style of these old houses. Our room overlooked the canal behind and with it's large window is was lovely to look out over the canal from bed in the morning. The room (and hotel) are beautifully decorated. Nice powerful shower and plenty of storage space. Great location with plenty of restaurants and bars close by. Tram station opposite. Great place to stay.
Good location.Staff were friendly and the happy hour was a nice bonus. Room was clean and comfortable. A bit pricey, , b Great location right on the canal and walking distance to everything.
What could be improved: The room was a bit hot but we had a fan to help cool us..
We were on street level and curtains didnt close properly.
Great value for such a central location Great property in lovely and quiet area but so central
What could be improved: Window wouldn’t stay open in single bedroom. Wash basin badly cracked and bath didn’t look inviting. Pillows too hard.
