First Impressions
Walking into Zoku Amsterdam, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical hotel — it’s actually designed for people who want to live like locals, even if it’s just for a few nights. The lobby feels more like a cool co-working space than a traditional hotel reception, with this open, industrial-chic vibe that somehow manages to feel both modern and welcoming. You know what struck me most? How the staff genuinely seemed excited to show guests around rather than just checking them in.
The Neighborhood
The location on Weesperstraat puts you right in the thick of Amsterdam‘s cultural scene — you’re literally walking distance from the Hermitage Museum and the vibrant Oosterpark area. What’s brilliant about this spot is that you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the tourist chaos around Dam Square to actually get some sleep. The neighborhood has this authentic Amsterdam feel, with locals cycling past cafés where you can grab proper Dutch coffee, not just the tourist stuff.
The Room Experience
Here’s where Zoku really shines — each room is designed as a “loft” with a proper living space that includes a small kitchen area with everything you’d actually need. I mean, having a decent coffee machine and space to store groceries from the local Albert Heijn makes such a difference when you’re staying more than a night or two. The beds are positioned on a raised platform, which sounds gimmicky but honestly creates this nice separation between your sleeping and living areas that makes the space feel much larger than it is.
Social Spaces and Amenities
The rooftop area is where this four-star property really comes alive — there’s a greenhouse up there where they actually grow herbs for the restaurant, plus these communal tables where you’ll end up chatting with other travelers without it feeling forced. The ground floor has co-working spaces that locals use during the day, which gives the whole place this energetic, lived-in atmosphere. There’s also a 24-hour gym that’s small but well-equipped, and honestly, having access to laundry facilities feels like a luxury when you’re traveling.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Zoku special is how it bridges the gap between a hotel and an apartment rental — you get hotel services and social spaces, but also the independence to cook your own meals and really settle in. The design encourages interaction without forcing it, and the location gives you that perfect balance of being in Amsterdam without being overwhelmed by it. Plus, the fact that it attracts a mix of business travelers, digital nomads, and tourists means you’re always meeting interesting people if that’s your thing.

Amazing hotel for our couples weekend in the Dam! Loved the room and the bed was super cosy. Restaurant was very aesthetically pleasing.
What could be improved: The noise, we were on 5th floor which is below the restaurant
Really enjoyed, the space was quiet and really well put together and would gladly stay again Room was nice and compact but had all the needed facilities. Bed was neat and very comfortable and the couch was also. Bathroom was great and we were able to come and go as we pleased but with the reception there if needed.
What could be improved: All was good for the price.
Exceptional The room is very well designed, with everything you'd need for a short or long stay, and the location is very convenient for the city center. The social area is bright and spacious and very comfortable.
What could be improved: No complaints
Great location, great roof top, great room. Well designed, practical, cozy
What could be improved: Some hair on the mattress below the mattress topper but otherwise very clean
Lovely stay in Amsterdam The room felt modern and very clean, and was comfortable, with some really cool features. We liked that the company is a B Corp, and really enjoyed spending time in the bar in the evenings. The beer and bitterballen were delicious!
What could be improved: Nothing!
Incredibly friendly staff and perfect location! The hotel's location was perfect. It was on the outskirts of the city centre, so it was super peaceful, but you were still a short tram ride away from everything. The room was a perfect size, and they even had a laundrette, which was super handy.
What could be improved: n/a
