First Impressions
Walking into XO Hotels City Centre, you immediately get that “right in the thick of things” feeling that makes Amsterdam so addictive. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without trying too hard — think sleek lines and warm lighting that actually works. What struck me most was how the staff seemed genuinely happy to see guests, not just going through the motions you sometimes get at three-star properties. The whole place feels like it knows exactly what it is: a well-run city hotel that doesn’t need to pretend to be anything fancier.
Location & Neighborhood
Honestly, the location is pretty much perfect if you want to experience Amsterdam without constantly hopping on trams. Beursstraat puts you right in the city centre — I mean, you can walk to Dam Square in about three minutes, and the Red Light District is literally around the corner (whether that’s a plus or minus depends on your perspective). The Central Station is close enough that you’ll hear the occasional announcement, but it’s not disruptive. What I really appreciated was being able to grab coffee at those tiny local cafés that tourists usually miss because they’re staying further out. You know what couples will love? Those romantic canal walks are right at your doorstep, and the evening strolls along the water feel magical when you don’t have to trek back to some distant hotel.
The Rooms
The rooms are compact — this is Amsterdam, after all, where space is at a premium — but they’re thoughtfully designed. Everything has its place, and the beds are actually comfortable, which isn’t always a given in city centre hotels. The bathrooms are small but functional, with decent water pressure that’ll wake you up in the morning. I particularly liked the large windows in most rooms; they let in plenty of natural light and give you glimpses of the bustling street life below. The soundproofing is better than expected for a building in such a busy area, though light sleepers might want to pack earplugs just in case.
Breakfast Experience
The breakfast setup is straightforward — continental and buffet style — but they do it well. Fresh bread, decent coffee (important in a city known for its café culture), and enough variety to fuel your day of canal-hopping and museum visits. The breakfast room gets busy around 8:30 AM, so if you’re an early riser, you’ll have more space and selection. Nothing fancy, but it’s filling and gets the job done without breaking the bank on expensive hotel extras.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes XO Hotels City Centre work is that it delivers exactly what most Amsterdam visitors actually need: a clean, comfortable base in an unbeatable location. You’re not paying for amenities you won’t use — instead, you’re investing in being steps away from everything that makes this city special. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, and there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on doing the basics really well rather than trying to be everything to everyone. For couples especially, having this kind of central location means more time exploring together and less time figuring out transportation.

What Our Guests Say
Very good The location of the hotel is very convenient - it is close to the train station and all the main stores and busy areas. The room is comfortable and clean, and the bathroom is clean wiih a lot of hot water for shower. There is also a coffee machine and coffee in the room, which was great. The breakfast is great and the staff are very helpful and nice. There are also mini cards with discounts from several places displayed which is nice. They also have a luggage room where you can store your luggage until you need to go after you check out.
What could be improved: Even though there is an elevator to take you to the floors above, there are still stairs you need to climb in order to get to your room. Also, it is noisy in the room as you can hear the wooden floors when someone is walking in the hall or above you. The church bells also can be heard all the time. The hairdryer needs to be updated to a newer version.
Very good Location was excellent
Very good What could be improved: No proper lighting in the room. And the socket was not working next to the bed.
Great location Great location, however hotel is dated. This isn’t a major issue as in Amsterdam you’re not really in the room.
What could be improved: Room was a touch tight, but again, not a major issue.
Clean rooms for affordable prices. Very central location. Staff was very friendly. Very good breakfast.
What could be improved: The entrance door to the room number 10 is a little bit loose, so there is a gap to the floor area. We could hear everything happening outside. It needs to be fixed. Compared to the other room we had (no. 7).
Good Location was ideal, staff were warm and friendly and the breakfast was very good
What could be improved: In an unfortunate occurrence the power went out in the morning of my stay which meant having a room with no window i had to get ready in the dark using only my phone for light which wasn't ideal.
Very good Excellent location, short walk to and from the hotel to all activities.
*Simple & Comfortable Stay with Helpful Staff* Indonesia 🇮🇩
The hotel is straightforward but covers all the essential needs. I especially loved the bright mirror in the bathroom. it made doing my makeup so much easier and faster! :)
The staff were wonderful: *Roland* was very helpful, *Libby* was such a pretty and kind lady, and *Val* went out of his way to provide me with a kettle since the coffee machine didn’t get hot enough for my liking.
During my stay, the hotel was under renovation, but *Arthur, Rizwan, and others since I hardly to remind people's names* remained polite and professional doing their job even they not work in service. All stood out enough that I still remember most of staff names.
What I like most is that luggage storage is free for guests who stay.
Overall, a no-fuss stay with great hospitality. Would recommend for those who value simplicity and friendly service.
What could be improved: some rooms required to use stairs before elevator
Friendly budget stay in the heart of the city centre Amazing location and clean and tidy with friendly staff, as was expected especially for the low price, we stayed here for one night before travelling out of the city for a festival and it was great for a quick stop over.
What could be improved: Hair dryers in rooms were unreliable as ours was faulty and the other room on our booking didn’t have one at all, the lock on the door was temperamental but room was still accessible just a sticky lock. The staff made all attempts to help with both issues.
Excellent location, very helpful staff. Location was excellent right in the heart of the City Centre, didn't book breakfast
