Here’s what I love about staying in Bos en Lommer — you’re getting the real Amsterdam experience without the tourist chaos. This area is where actual locals live, work, and hang out. There’s a fantastic Turkish bakery just down the street where I grabbed coffee every morning, and honestly, the pastries were better than anything I found near Dam Square. You’re still only about 15 minutes by tram to the Jordaan or the museum district, but when you come back in the evening, it’s peaceful.

The Room Experience

My room was on the second floor — and yes, you’ll be climbing some typically steep Dutch stairs to get there. The space felt thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate. They’ve kept original details like the high ceilings and wooden floors while adding modern touches that actually make sense. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for Amsterdam standards, and I appreciated the little balcony overlooking the quiet street below.

What Sets It Apart

The staff here genuinely seem to care about your experience, which isn’t always a given in busy Amsterdam. When I mentioned I was looking for a good spot for dinner that wasn’t touristy, the front desk manager wrote down three local places — all of which turned out to be excellent. There’s no on-site restaurant, but they’ve partnered with a nearby café for breakfast delivery, and you know what? Sometimes that works better than a formal dining room.
