The entrance is unassuming, tucked between typical Amsterdam storefronts, but that’s part of its charm. It’s a three-star place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, and I mean that in the best way possible.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s great about staying here? You can walk to Dam Square in about five minutes, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of being right on top of it. Amsterdam City Centre can be overwhelming, especially around the main tourist spots, but Spuistraat has this nice balance — busy enough to feel alive, quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep at night. There’s a brown cafe (that’s what locals call traditional pubs) practically next door, and the tram stops are close enough that you don’t need to think twice about getting around.

The Room

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully arranged — typical Amsterdam style where every square meter counts. The bed was comfortable enough, and the window opened wide, which I appreciated since some older buildings here can feel stuffy. The bathroom was small but functional, with decent water pressure (always a concern in these older buildings). What I liked was that everything felt clean and well-maintained, even if the decor isn’t going to win any design awards.

Getting Around

Actually, this is where the hotel really shines. You’re within walking distance of the Anne Frank House, the Royal Palace, and all those canal-side streets that make Amsterdam so photogenic. The Begijnhof — this hidden courtyard that most tourists miss — is literally around the corner. If you want to venture further out, Centraal Station is maybe a 10-minute walk, which means you can easily day-trip to places like Haarlem or even catch a train to other Dutch cities.

Look, this isn’t a place with fancy amenities or a rooftop bar, but that’s not really the point. What Tourist Inn Hotel Amsterdam does well is put you right in the middle of everything without breaking the bank. The staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood — they pointed me toward a local market I never would have found otherwise. For a three-star hotel in this part of the city, the 8.5 rating makes perfect sense. It’s clean, it’s comfortable, and you’re not paying extra for services you probably won’t use anyway. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
