First Impressions
Walking into THIS HO(S)TEL on Warmoesstraat, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical Amsterdam accommodation. The name itself is playfully cheeky — and honestly, that sets the tone perfectly for what you’ll find inside. It’s a three-star property that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. The vibe is relaxed and unpretentious, which I actually found refreshing after seeing so many places trying too hard to impress.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s amazing about this spot? You’re literally in the thick of everything in Amsterdam City Centre, but somehow it doesn’t feel overwhelming. Warmoesstraat runs parallel to the main tourist drag, so you get all the benefits without the constant chaos. I mean, you can walk to Dam Square in about three minutes, and the Red Light District is right there if that’s your thing. The couples who stay here absolutely love it — and I can see why, because you’ve got intimate canal-side walks just steps away, plus all those cozy brown cafés scattered around the neighborhood.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but cleverly designed — which is pretty much what you’d expect in Amsterdam’s city center. Everything felt clean and modern, with thoughtful touches throughout. What I appreciated was how they maximized the space without making it feel cramped. The bed was comfortable enough, and there’s decent storage for your stuff. The bathroom was small but functional, and honestly, when you’re spending most of your time exploring the city, you just need a good place to crash.
Breakfast & Amenities
The breakfast setup here is actually quite solid for a three-star place. They offer both Continental and Full English/Irish options, which gives you some flexibility depending on your mood. I went with the Full English one morning and was pleasantly surprised — it wasn’t gourmet, but it was hearty and well-prepared. The Continental spread had all the basics you’d want: decent coffee, fresh bread, and enough variety to fuel up for a day of walking around Amsterdam’s cobblestone streets. The dining area is welcoming and sets a positive tone for your day ahead.
Why Guests Love It
Look, THIS HO(S)TEL isn’t going to overwhelm you with fancy amenities or over-the-top service, but it nails the fundamentals. The location really is exceptional — that 9.7 score isn’t just marketing fluff. You’re genuinely in the heart of everything, which means you can stumble back after a night out without worrying about trams or taxis. The staff keeps things running smoothly without being intrusive, and the whole place has this laid-back Amsterdam energy that just works. For the price point, especially considering where you are, it’s honestly hard to beat. This is a place where you’ll want to return.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional The staff were fantastic and accommodating, and the hostel had a great vibe. I highly recommend the 5pm cocktail hour as it is a great time to meet other guests and have a good time chatting with everyone around. The location is fantastic, a 2 minute walk to the canals with plenty to see and do around, and only a 5 minutes walk to the central train station, so arrival and departure is very easy.
What could be improved: The room is small, but this is to be expected as it is a cube hotel, but having your own isolated room in a hostel is always a plus
Exceptional Great environment and stuff! Will come back and recommend it
I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel It was very clean with easy excess to central Amsterdam the only thing that threw me a bit off was it’s literally a cube not much space to move around but the bed was very comfortable I would book here again.
What could be improved: I like it very much
Funky cozy couples pod. Super central location, great energy, the pod was very cozy and clean on arrival, very funky vibe. Bathrooms were nicely furnished and clean too. Easy check in and check out. Good privacy in the pods.
Exceptional The staff were very nice, the food was great, and the room and bathrooms were clean. Will definitely visit again x
Exceptional Close to the centre of Amsterdam train station
What could be improved: Upper beds were hard to get into
Good for short and budgeted stay. It Is clean and near to train station. They have luggage storage. Staff were helpful and accommodating.
What could be improved: If you’re not into small spaces this is not for you. This is cubicle type. Other than that it is well recommended.
Amazing Hostel 🤠 This was my first time staying at a hostel as I normally prefer to have my own space, however the cube suited my needs perfectly and sharing the bathrooms was absolutely fine. The staff here were all so amazing. At the bar Renzo made the nicest cocktails and Wake the security guy was so lovely. I didn’t get the names of the girl with long hair working reception and the guy with the coffee earrings but they were lovely too and made a great latte. Also, when I asked for a bottle of water it would be given to me free of charge which I thought was a nice touch. I don’t think I’ll be staying in your average hostel anytime soon but I would 100% recommend ‘This Ho(s)tel’ to anyone travelling to Amsterdam. Thank you for your hospitality!!
What could be improved: This is not the fault of the establishment, but the second night I had an unfortunate experience with another patron outside of the hostel. Fortunately, I had made an amazing friend at the bar the first night so I wasn’t alone. I’m sure there are policies in place for instances like this and if we had asked for help I’m certain the staff would have stepped in once we got back, so this is more of a shout to other female solo travellers to let staff know of inappropriate interactions. Stay safe ♥️
Perfect for backpacking while exploring Amsterdam It’ just within the city centre. A short walk from Amsterdam Centraal, food shops, landmarks, red light district, and if you get hungry, there’s a restaurant by the entrance. Will definitely stay here again whenever in Amsterdam.
What could be improved: Nothing
Cheap and perfect location stay The location for the property is in the perfect location. Close to Amsterdam Centraal (3-5 mins walk away) and the bars and restaurants.
Even though the rooms are very small, the pricing is great for the area. Similar priced properties (at time of writing) appeared to be hostels with beds in dormitories. This property gives the added benefit of your own space and door for privacy.
