First Impressions
Walking into The Social Hub Amsterdam West, I immediately got that “this isn’t your typical hotel” vibe. The lobby buzzes with a mix of travelers, digital nomads, and locals grabbing coffee — it’s more like a modern co-working space that happens to have rooms upstairs. The Star House building itself has this industrial-chic thing going on, and honestly, it works really well in the Slotervaart neighborhood.
The Neighborhood Reality
Let me be real about the location — Amsterdam West isn’t the canal-ring postcard version of Amsterdam, but that’s actually what I liked about it. You’re in a proper residential area where actual Amsterdammers live, which means better prices for food and drinks. The Jan van Galenstraat area has some solid local cafés, and you know what? Sometimes it’s nice to escape the tourist crowds. Tram connections into the city center are pretty straightforward, though you’ll want to factor in about 20-30 minutes to reach the main attractions.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had this smart, space-efficient design that millennials and Gen Z travelers seem to love. Everything’s minimalist but functional — good Wi-Fi, decent shower pressure, and a bed that’s actually comfortable (not always a given with trendy hotels). The windows are large, so you get plenty of natural light, and the whole space feels bigger than it probably is. There’s a small work area too, which came in handy since half the guests seemed to be working remotely.
Social Spaces and Amenities
This four-star spot really lives up to its “social hub” name. The ground floor restaurant serves decent international food — nothing groundbreaking, but solid enough for dinner when you don’t feel like venturing out. The real highlight is the communal spaces where people actually hang out and work. I saw folks having impromptu meetings, others playing games, and some just lounging with laptops. There’s even a small gym and study areas, though the parking situation requires advance planning if you’re driving.
Why Guests Love It
The Social Hub Amsterdam West works because it knows exactly what it is — a modern, community-focused hotel that attracts younger, more adventurous travelers. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there, which shows in their helpful attitude and local recommendations. Sure, you’re trading the historic charm of central Amsterdam for a more authentic neighborhood experience, but honestly? For the price point and the chance to see how locals actually live, it’s a pretty fair trade. Just don’t expect traditional hotel service — this place is more about independence and making your own discoveries.

What Our Guests Say
Clean and nice Nice staff, tasty breakfast, clean rooms, hotel right next to the train, metro and tram! Allowed to leave luggage in the hotel even after check out!
Would recommend and come back really lovely staff and accommodation Very modern hotel , very clean , perfect location for access to trams and metro , lovely cafe in reception and big social space. I’m a wheelchair user and found the wheelchair accessible room perfect.
What could be improved: I did not mind but it’s a student area and site so can be busy
Exceptional Great location and facilities, the bed was so comfortable and very well equipped gym.
Will definitely stay here again!
Superb Great place to stay in Amsterdam!
Superb My second stay with them. Rooms are clean, and there's a cafe downstairs and a 24x7 vending machine..also has some late night eateries in walking distance which was great for me since I arrived late.
They upgraded me to a room with a kitchenette which was super helpful.
Our stay at The Social Hub (Sep 12/09/2025) – Amsterdam West was truly enjoyable Our stay at The Social Hub – Amsterdam West was truly enjoyable. From the moment we booked, the process was seamless—confirmation came through quickly, and the hotel kept us informed every step of the way. On arrival, the automated check-in system made everything smooth and hassle-free.
The staff were warm, welcoming, and always ready to help, which added a personal touch to the experience. Our room was spotless, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed for comfort and convenience.
Location & Connectivity: One of the standout features was the excellent connectivity to the city center. With frequent and reliable tram and underground rail services nearby, getting around Amsterdam was effortless.
Overall, The Social Hub offers a perfect blend of modern convenience, friendly service, and great location. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore Amsterdam with ease and comfort.
What could be improved: Breakfast was fresh on most days and followed a standard European style. The spread included toast, eggs, baked beans, hash browns, bacon or sausages, and an assortment of pastries. However, fresh fruit options were limited, and the coffee from the machine was just average. Overall, we’d rate the breakfast a 3.5 out of 5—satisfying, but with room for improvement.
Exceptional The hotel is excellent for digital nomads. It has working spaces and a gym. Also you can wash your clothes. The breakfast buffet has an extensive offer. All the staff I interacted with was kind and accommodating. I will definitely come here again.
What could be improved: There is no code to buy after 20:00h, sometimes even before.
Superb Big spaces, a lot of facilities, big bed, perfect shower, frequent room cleaning
What could be improved: The breakfast service is expensive
Acceptable Location
What could be improved: Very young almost college type set-up … not a traditional 4 star hotel
Exceptional I stayed here to attend the Loveland music festival. Metro/tram stations right outside the hotel, so was perfect for getting around to Sloterpark (where the festival was), and also to the centre of town for other stuff.
What could be improved: Was a bit expensive - but I guess that's expected in August.
