My room was compact but smartly designed — think clean lines, plenty of natural light, and everything you need without the clutter. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and I mean that as someone who’s pretty picky about where I sleep. What caught me off guard was how quiet it stays despite being in such a lively building. You’ll find USB ports everywhere (thank goodness), and the shower actually has decent water pressure, which isn’t always a given in Amsterdam hotels.

Here’s the thing about Slotervaart — it’s not the canal-lined center most tourists picture, but that’s exactly why it works. You’re about 15 minutes by tram to the main attractions, but you get to experience a more residential side of the city. There’s a solid restaurant scene nearby that locals actually frequent, plus the Vondelpark is closer than you’d think. The tram connections are excellent, and honestly, I preferred staying here over the tourist-heavy areas.

I ended up chatting with fellow travelers more here than at most places I’ve stayed.
