The Quay Amsterdam – FREE PARKING

First Impressions Honestly, when I first heard about The Quay Amsterdam - FREE PARKING, I was a bit skeptical — I mean, free parking in Amsterdam?

First Impressions

Honestly, when I first heard about The Quay Amsterdam – FREE PARKING, I was a bit skeptical — I mean, free parking in Amsterdam? That alone seemed too good to be true. But after staying there, I get it. This four-star hotel sits along the Nieuwendammerkade in Amsterdam Noord, and while it’s not right in the historic center, that’s actually part of its charm. The modern building overlooks the IJ waterfront, and you know what? The views are pretty spectacular, especially at sunset.

The Noord Advantage

Look, Amsterdam Noord used to be this industrial area that tourists completely ignored, but it’s become one of the coolest neighborhoods in the city. You’re literally a 15-minute ferry ride from Central Station — and those ferries run constantly and are completely free. Plus, you get to see the city from the water, which beats being crammed into a tram any day. The area around the hotel has this emerging creative scene with galleries, cafes, and that famous A’DAM Lookout tower just a short bike ride away.

The Room Experience

The rooms here are what I’d call smart-modern rather than trying-too-hard-trendy. My room had floor-to-ceiling windows facing the water, and the design was clean without being sterile. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given, even in decent hotels), and the bathrooms are well-designed with good water pressure. What I appreciated most was the soundproofing — despite being near the waterfront with some boat traffic, nights were genuinely quiet.

Dining and Amenities

The hotel’s restaurant focuses on contemporary European cuisine, and while it’s not going to win any Michelin stars, the food is solid and the waterfront terrace is lovely on warm evenings. Breakfast has a good spread — nothing too fancy, but quality ingredients and plenty of options. The fitness area is compact but functional, and there’s a small wellness area that’s perfect for unwinding after walking around the city all day.

Why Guests Love It

That free parking thing? It’s legitimately amazing if you’re driving to Amsterdam or renting a car to explore the Netherlands. Most hotels in the city center charge €30-50 per night for parking, so this alone can save you serious money. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you factor in the value proposition — you’re getting solid four-star comfort, great views, and practical benefits like that parking, all while being genuinely well-connected to everything Amsterdam offers. It’s not the most Instagram-famous location, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Quiet location. The location was really nice, the apartment was comfortable.

What could be improved: Little bit expensive.

Exceptional Everything was perfect

What could be improved: It was hard to find the apartment door, since we didn’t have its number on the address that was given to us. We spent 1h finding it

Very nice, quiet area. Definitely recommend using bikes (if you do not rent a car) as was a 10 minute bike to the free The apartment was very clean, in a very nice, quiet neighborhood. Right beside a park and tennis courts. Beds were comfortable and good space for a family of four to relax at the end of each day. They also allowed us to store our luggage early at the apartment before it was ready to check in.

What could be improved: No freezer compartment in the fridge. (No ice). No microwave, no stove or oven (when we booked it was listed, they did explain, new restrictions are in place and had to make it now inoperable). Also it says there is a 24 hour front desk which is not accurate. We asked for ice at 10pm and was told it was too late (and that response was the next day). The ad also calls it a bed and breakfast but there is no breakfast, as this is an apartment.

Clean and fun stay but maybe not best location to explore Amsterdam. This little home was immaculate, welcomed our dog and was right next to a beautiful park for long dog walks. The kitchen was fairly well stocked and the owner welcomed us and helped us get in. We were able to use the TV to watch our own Netflix account, which was nice - Wifi was good, location was interesting being close to the action but not paying high prices.

What could be improved: The location is good - but you will need a car or bikes to easily get to the ferry to the city (which is free, fast and super easy) - We wished we'd had bikes because even off the ferry into Amsterdam you have to walk a ways to attractions. The food options near the house are limited, restaurants were closed or wouldn't let us order over the phone for pick up and we couldn't find anyone to deliver pizza OR order takeout. Stay in main Amsterdam for better food options. As you know, you cannot cook in the house but we did like the hard-egg cooker for breakfast.

Great place to stay in Amsterdam! We had a lovely stay at the apartment, we had 2 couples and the place was just the right size for the 4 of us. We really liked the suggests that the host provided and the personal touch with welcoming us to the apartment.

Although the apartment isn’t right in the thick of it, we enjoyed that, as we wanted somewhere a little more quiet and out of the city.

What could be improved: We didn’t have much to complain about, only thing to be aware of is that this apartment is below the hosts home, so there was the occasional knock on the door and sound from upstairs.

A wonderful stay in a lovely part of Amsterdam. Gorgeous apartment in a lovely quiet residential area. Not far from the city but felt like a different world! Very stylishly designed and comfortable for our family of 4.

What could be improved: It’s a fair walk from the free ferry stop. This wasn’t a problem for us really but it is important to note this for future guests.

What could be improved: we were in a group but the walk through the edge of the park at night. however lots of bikes around

Great stay, we’ll be back! Great modern apartment in noord Amsterdam. Faces parkland and 10 minute cycle to ferry. Bart (owner) was very helpful with local recommendations & we loved our stay!

What could be improved: Nothing

Lovely Place to stay outside of City Lovely ground floor apartment in pretty village area next to a park - great little neighbourhood well worth exploring as an alternative to going into the City.

What could be improved: Apartment is a 20min walk from the Metro - alternatively there is a complex route from Central Station via the ferry, bus then 15min walk through the park, which seemed longer when you have heavy luggage & it is raining - not recommended for disabled or those arriving in the dark...get a cab!

Superb Great, quiet place next to the city park. Good access by metro or ferry to the city center and friendly owner.
