The New Lake Boathouse
First Impressions The New Lake Boathouse caught me completely off guard — and I mean that in the best way.
First Impressions
The New Lake Boathouse caught me completely off guard — and I mean that in the best way. Tucked away on Jaagpad in Oud Zuid, this four-star gem sits right where you’d least expect to find something this special. The name isn’t just clever marketing either; you’re literally staying in what feels like an upscale boathouse experience, complete with water views that make you forget you’re in the middle of Amsterdam.
The Setting
Here’s what I love about the location — it’s in Oud Zuid, which honestly feels like Amsterdam’s best-kept secret for travelers who want to skip the tourist chaos. You’re close enough to hop on a tram to the Rijksmuseum or Vondelpark, but far enough away that you can actually hear yourself think. The hotel overlooks one of those picture-perfect Amsterdam waterways, and I spent way too much time just watching the boats drift by from my window.
The Room Experience
My room had this perfect blend of modern comfort and that distinctly Dutch design sensibility — clean lines, lots of natural light, and details that actually matter. The bathroom was spacious (a real win in Amsterdam), and the bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re drowning in pillows. What really got me was the attention to the water theme throughout; subtle nautical touches that felt intentional rather than gimmicky.
Dining and Amenities
The restaurant deserves its own mention — they focus on fresh, local ingredients with a menu that changes seasonally. I had dinner there twice during my stay, which should tell you something about the quality. The staff actually knows their stuff too, not just the usual scripted responses you get at most hotel restaurants. There’s also a small wellness area where you can unwind after walking Amsterdam’s cobblestones all day.
Why Guests Love It
You know what sets The New Lake Boathouse apart? It’s that rare hotel that feels both special and unpretentious. The 9.6 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here — everything just works smoothly without anyone making a big show of it. Plus, there’s something magical about falling asleep to the gentle sounds of water lapping against the dock, especially when you wake up to that gorgeous Amsterdam light filtering through the windows over the canal.

What Our Guests Say
THE place to stay Serenity, the host is exceptional. The best of the best
What could be improved: Nothing
Exceptional The property is compact (but equipped with everything you might need) and very open and light with fabulous views of the lake. Sandra was so friendly and easy to communicate with, and clearly cares a lot about the guests experience! We had a wonderful stay and felt so at home there. ❤️
Wonderful, relaxing and special. The location is stunning and the boathouse itself is very comfortable and nice. Everything we needed is right to hand. The location is great and the boathouse community is a lovely one to be part of, even if its only for a few days.
What could be improved: Nothing - I will mention that there isn't a sofa or lounge sitting inside (so people know) but we didn't care about that at all. We either sat on the deck or on the big bed.
Superb Great communication with the host, who was very welcoming and helpful.
Awesome location, very charming and peaceful - while being fairly accessible.
chill, relax & enjoy the nature location is amazing, even it's a house boat you won't feel your are in a boat, house won't move with water & wind, with soundproof. and toilet system is very good like normal home. on top of that you have a romantic terrace, where you can chill, relax, have your morning coffee, evening wine or jump and have a swim.. comfy beds like sleeping on clouds... fully equipped kitchen with all your needs.
Sandra was very welcoming us and helping us.. as my wife was sick on day of arrival, and she took care of us
we were a couple even though she gave us 3 bikes to use for free during our stay.. 5 mintus away from supermarket & shops..and 20 min. by bike to central amsterdam crossing the beautiful vondalpark.... as well Bos park is near by where you can enjoy waking or biking. Safe and lovely neighborhood to stay. highly Recomnded . for sure will stay here again.

A lovely place to stay in Amsterdam The location on the water was superb. We loved to watch the riverboats go past, or to stay inside in comfort. We were always warm and comfortable. It was easy to walk to a tram or bus to go into the city centre and free cycles were provided which we used to go to a laundromat and get groceries. Sandra provided easy to understand instructions on getting to the boathouse, left fresh milk in the fridge so we could make a cup of tea, as we were arriving late, and was very helpful throughout our stay.

Wonderful 2-night stay in Amsterdam! =:) Owner was very friendly, helpful and hospitable. We had a bit of trouble finding the home at first, but she came out to meet us right away and gave us the key/showed us around. The best surprise was that she offered us the use of her bikes/locks & we used them to do our sightseeing around town. We had a rental car, but on the busy King's Birthday Weekend (& really, parking in town would be a challenge any day, any time!), it was a real time & parking fees saver (not to mention a lot more fun!) to bike everywhere. We went to the Reich Museum, had lunch outside there, did a canal boat tour & Anne Frank House all in the same day. Biking thru the city was really fun, safe & common. She has equipped the home with all the necessary amenities plus a few extras like complimentary snacks and drinks in the fridge. Very thoughtful! The decor was comfy, cozy and had lovely Dutch touches. We enjoyed watching the boats come down the canal from the dock patio out back and the swan, coot and ducks too. If we ever come back to Amsterdam, we would love to stay at this home again!
FYI, the owner's home is literally on the other side of the house, but you have a private entrance to the guest side and the canal patio is on the guests' side too. Definitely one of our favorite stays on our 16-day (2500+ miles!) European Roadtrip! =:)
What could be improved: Minor, but noticeable: there was trash in the canal in the front & one side of the home. Finding the home was a little stressful, but owner was so prompt in answering our call & getting us to the right spot to get checked in & settled, even though we were later than originally expected due to our tour bus being late to return us from the tulip fields tour.
Perfect Everything

A beautiful 5 days of comfort and tranquility Location was stunning, waking up every morning next to the water. Only a short bicycle ride in to Amsterdam Central Area
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would gladly stay there again upon returning to Amsterdam. Breakfast was not included with this property. But there were little cafés not too far from the boathouse. The property was also not far from the tram stop, which was nice for getting to the city center. We felt very safe walking back to the boathouse late at night. It was a very quiet and peaceful location. I must also add that the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable! That is so important when traveling. Sandra was so helpful throughout the whole process.
What could be improved: This didn't bother us, but light does come in through the closed blinds at night. If you need a pitch black environment for sleeping, make sure you have a sleep mask.
