First Impressions
The Muse Amsterdam – Boutique Hotel sits on a quiet tree-lined street in Oud Zuid, and honestly, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking. That’s actually part of its charm — this restaurant and hotel combo feels more like stumbling into a well-kept local secret than checking into a typical tourist spot. The building itself has that understated Amsterdam elegance, all clean lines and big windows that let in tons of natural light.
The Neighborhood Feel
Oud Zuid is where Amsterdam locals actually want to live, and staying here gives you a real sense of that. You’re surrounded by cafes where people are genuinely working on laptops rather than posing for Instagram, and the Vondelpark is literally a five-minute walk away. The Museumplein area is close enough that you can easily hit the major museums, but far enough that you won’t be dodging tour groups when you step outside for coffee.
The Room Experience
The rooms at this three-star place punch above their weight class, I’ll give them that. Each room has this modern Dutch design thing going on — think warm woods, crisp whites, and just enough character to feel personal. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for Amsterdam standards, and you know what? The beds are actually comfortable, which isn’t something you can take for granted in boutique hotels. Some rooms overlook the street’s canopy of trees, which is particularly nice in spring.
Food and Social Spaces
The ground floor restaurant draws a solid mix of guests and locals, especially for dinner. I mean, when Amsterdam residents are willing to make reservations somewhere, that usually tells you something about the food quality. The breakfast setup is simple but well-executed — fresh pastries, decent coffee, and they don’t try to overcomplicate things. There’s also this cozy lounge area where you can actually sit and read without feeling like you’re in a hotel lobby.
Why Guests Love It
What really works here is the balance — you get that boutique hotel attention to detail without the pretentiousness that sometimes comes with it. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood and can point you toward things you wouldn’t find in guidebooks. Plus, with parking being such a nightmare in central Amsterdam, the fact that they can help arrange spots nearby is honestly worth mentioning. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals would actually recommend, rather than just another hotel that happens to be in Amsterdam.

What Our Guests Say
A lovely stay thanks to the amazing staff and great location, though the cramped, dated room made it feel a bit overpric I had such a great time here! The staff were absolutely amazing — a big shout-out to Flávio, Si Yu, and the Night Attendant (Iranian guy !) for their friendliness and helpfulness throughout my stay.
The hotel is super convenient, with a perfect location in the De Pijp neighborhood — great restaurants and cafés around, and the #12 tram makes it so easy to get into Central Amsterdam.
The room was cleaned with fresh towels daily, and I really appreciated the coffee machine in the kitchen and well-stocked minibar.
And of course, Bella the cat completely stole the show — truly the star of the hotel!
What could be improved: The room felt extremely dated and cramped, with almost no space to move around or store luggage. The walls were quite thin, so noise carried easily, and there was sometimes an unpleasant smell in the elevator and breakfast area (possibly from the cat litter).
The mural behind the bed — a giant flower — wasn’t very pleasant to look at, and the purple color scheme didn’t help the atmosphere. The bathroom layout was especially tight; the toilet is squeezed between the shower and wall, which could be uncomfortable for larger guests.
With such a small space, the room could really benefit from better shelving and smarter storage — for example, under the TV, above the nightstands, or even some built-in shelving in the bathroom. Rearranging the furniture (like moving the bed toward the window wall) might also help the flow.
For a Chinese-owned hotel, I expected a more feng shui–balanced layout, but it didn’t feel that way. At around €280 per night, I didn’t feel it offered good value for money given the space and room quality.
The room was delightful and comfortable the shower should be a standing shower What could be improved: The tub it should be a standing shower
Wonderful stay Had a lovely stay at The Muse Amsterdam. The staff is absolutely wonderful. The room was very clean and spacious enough for 2 people. We had space to walk around and put our suitcase. We got free tea, water, coffee, soda, chocolates etc. Bed was very comfortable. Would 100% visit again.
What could be improved: The decor is less our style, but that didn’t bother us at all.
Nice location, friendly staff, clean! Staff was super friendly. Provided sodas/water in room, free coffee machine usage. Rooms were clean and daily housekeeping!
What could be improved: Could have put a suitcase holder or 2 in the room (very large dead space)
Nice find Location was perfect for accessing public transportation, and for walking to less touristy parts of the city. Quiet but central. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and while the mini-bar fridge was small, it was enough for a couple of yogurts and drinks. Coffee machine well stocked and delicious coffee. In-room safe appreciated.
What could be improved: Decorative throw on the bed stained and did not look too clean. However, we simply removed it and set it aside, and the bedding we were in contact with as impeccably clean and crisp. Maybe dispense with that decorative element? Walls are thin - expect to hear your neighbors.
Great place to stay The staff was very kind and helpful. The room was spacious and it had a nice bathroom
Superb Very good location. Room was nice and we liked the decorations. Surprisingly quiet even though quite close to a busy intersection.
What could be improved: Room did not have a refigirator and too few hooks on the walls for clothes & towels.
Friendly staff, close to Amsterdam concert hall Excellent location
What could be improved: Nothing
