First Impressions
Walking up to The LIF Boutique on Sarphatikade, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked into this gorgeous canal-side street that most tourists rush past on their way to the bigger attractions. The building itself has that classic Amsterdam charm, but there’s something refreshingly modern about how they’ve approached the whole boutique concept. I mean, it’s a three-star property, so don’t expect marble lobbies or anything, but honestly? That’s exactly what makes it work.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying in Amsterdam City Centre — you’re literally in the thick of everything, but this particular spot feels more like where locals actually hang out. The Sarphatipark is just a short walk away, which is perfect for morning runs or when you need a break from all the canal-hopping. You know what’s really convenient? The tram connections are fantastic from here, and you can walk to most of the major museums in about fifteen minutes. Couples seem to absolutely love this area — I can see why, actually, because there’s something romantic about those quiet canal views without the constant tour groups.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — they’ve clearly put effort into maximizing every square inch without making it feel cramped. The windows face the canal, which means you get those quintessential Amsterdam views of houseboats and cyclists. The bed was surprisingly comfortable for a boutique property, and I appreciated the modern touches like decent WiFi and a proper shower (trust me, that’s not always a given in these historic buildings). Storage space is limited, but if you’re traveling light, it’s perfectly adequate.
Practical Considerations
Let’s talk about the practical stuff — parking in central Amsterdam is basically a nightmare, so I’d honestly recommend just taking public transport from Schiphol instead. The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant, but that’s actually fine because you’re surrounded by incredible local spots. There’s this little café around the corner that does amazing Dutch breakfast, and the Albert Cuyp Market is close enough for grabbing fresh stroopwafels. The staff here genuinely knows the neighborhood well — they pointed me toward some places I never would’ve found otherwise.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it strikes that balance between authentic Amsterdam living and tourist practicality. You’re not staying in some sterile chain hotel, but you’re also not dealing with paper-thin walls or sketchy plumbing that sometimes comes with “character” properties. The location score speaks for itself — 8.8 is pretty impressive for central Amsterdam. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense. For the price point and the neighborhood, it’s honestly hard to beat.
Apartments in Amsterdam suit slow travelers with bike storage, mezzanine offices, and sunlit courtyards.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Very clean and stylish and compfortable bed
What could be improved: Narrow room a bit hard for non solo traveler
It was lovely considering the situation Very beautiful place
What could be improved: The back garden and the bedroom was lovely
Good canal views, lofty vibes The location, free coffee vending machine at the reception, you can leave your stuff before and after check-in/out, daily housecleaning, canal views were lovely
What could be improved: As other reviews suggested, the water pressure in the shower was horrible. Also after I checked out I popped back in to get my luggage in the evening and the code was expired so I had to knock the door to get in and waited outside a bit. Not very ideal if you’re in a rush
A great location to access central Amsterdam . Close to markets and shops. Good shared facilities and friendly.
What could be improved: Was basin located in the living area.
Superb A little small and expensive but it's a beautiful and comfortable boutique hotel. Location wasn't too bad eventhough I have hard time looking for the location on my arrival. I would definitely come and stay again, hopefully soon.
What could be improved: A kettle and a small table in the room would be good. Otherwise, everything good!
Excellent clean friendly Lovely clean hotel. Location was ok but further out than I expected but my own fault for not researching. Apart from that we loved it. Was clean and quirky. Perfect for what we wanted. Complimentary coffee was amazing. Thanks again for a lovely stay. Loved the added extras like the online keys. So handy! And the electric windows were great too. Xxx
Superb Spotlessly clean, pretty hotel. Cute and cosy room. Very comfy bed. Bathroom was very clean, good shower. Plenty of space, clothes hangers shelving etc. Safe for valuables.
Decent location, walking distance from Centraal station and all the tourist spots.
Great communication and the digital key was convenient and easy to use. Overall a perfect base for visiting the city!
What could be improved: The ambient hallway music could be heard slightly from the room throughout the night, not sure if this is the case for all rooms, or just th ground floor
Highly recommend this hotel to others! Bed was extremely comfortable, room was so cute and clean, and had a view of the canal. Complimentary hot drinks was great and overall location of the hotel was perfect.
What could be improved: Only thing we can fault is the shower- the shower was really weak. Took forever to warm up and hardly any water comes out of it. Apart from that, this hotel is perfect!
Fabulous hotel even left us a little welcome gift for getting married! Amazing stay in Pom was a little small but enough for what we paid.
Really nice and beautiful Free coffee
What could be improved: Some areas on the wall need repair
