The July – Boat & Co

First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about The July – Boat & Co? It’s literally a floating hotel on Amsterdam’s waterways, moored in the trendy Westerpark area. I mean, I’ve stayed in plenty of canal-side places, but actually sleeping on the water — that’s something else entirely. The whole setup feels like someone took a boutique hotel and decided to make it way more interesting.
The Floating Experience
This four-star boat hotel sits right on Revaleiland, which honestly feels like Amsterdam’s best-kept secret. The gentle rocking motion takes some getting used to — I actually loved it, but if you’re prone to seasickness, maybe consider that. What’s brilliant is how they’ve managed to create proper hotel comfort while maintaining that authentic maritime vibe. The room I stayed in felt surprisingly spacious for a boat, with clever storage solutions everywhere.
Location & Neighborhood
Westerpark is where locals go to escape the tourist madness, and being on the water here puts you right in the middle of that scene. You can literally watch the neighborhood come alive from your window — cyclists heading to work, locals walking their dogs along the waterfront. The area’s got this relaxed, residential feel that most visitors never experience. Plus, you’re still close enough to central Amsterdam that nothing feels out of reach.
Onboard Amenities
The boat’s restaurant serves surprisingly good food — I wasn’t expecting much, but they clearly take it seriously. There’s also a cozy bar area where you’ll inevitably end up chatting with other guests about the novelty of the whole thing. The communal spaces work really well, probably because everyone’s sharing this unique experience. Parking isn’t an issue since, well, you’re on a boat, but there are spots nearby if you’re driving.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.2 rating makes complete sense once you’re there. It’s not just about the novelty — though sleeping on Amsterdam’s canals is undeniably cool — it’s about how well they’ve executed the concept. The staff genuinely seems excited about what they’re doing, and that enthusiasm is infectious. You’ll find yourself taking photos of things like the way the morning light hits the water, or how the city sounds different when you’re floating in it rather than walking through it.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Perfect score for this hotel! It ticked all the boxes for things that I find essential when traveling: great design, friendly staff (thanks Gianluca for the warm welcome!), great location in a less known local neighborhood worth exploring (but still very well connected to more known areas thanks to the efficient public transportation system in Amsterdam -and oh, free bikes!), exceptional cleanliness and high quality of food (in case you're pondering: yes, add breakfast! It is so worth it!) and, overall, services offered. We even got offered 2 free drinks at the bar/restaurant Vessel. I couldn't be happier with my choice for this short yet rewarding stay -both the hotel and the city are top notch!!
Nice, big, comfortable room right by the water, with easy access to the city, but also a nice place to return to for a d Quiet location off the beaten path, but right by the water and easy to access the main sights, especially with the free bike rental.
Superb One of the best hotel in town
Cherry on top - this stay was a trip highlight! Firstly, staff member Gianluca made us feel very welcome after a long trip, good energy and appreciated the birthday wishes! The food was delicious, and the room blew us away, so comfortable and roomy, an amazing touch of apartment practicality with hotel style. We LOVED our stay here and will most certainly be back
What could be improved: A little far from some places but the free bikes helped!
Would highly recommend to anybody visiting Amsterdam Great hotel, nice room, very comfortable bed, squicky clean and not too far from the center. It is in a quiet, nice neighbordhood.
What could be improved: Nothing
Exceptional My room and gym
What could be improved: To book a session at the gym
Beautiful hotel and views We had the two bedroom and it was so nice. The room was adorable and the little kitchen had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable and the view was great.
Very good Gorgeous interior, selection of tea and coffee, comfortable bed, beautiful toiletries. The view from our room overlooking the canal was stunning, it was so quiet and peaceful. The restaurant downstairs makes delicious cocktails, coffee and food.
What could be improved: It is a little bit out of the city centre but roughly a six minute walk and then a short bus trip wherever you need to go
Exceptional Absolutely love this hotel, its not my fist time. Has all the facilities you need and more. The restaurant is great with beautiful views over the water.
What could be improved: NA
Lively, modern beautiful place to stay! It was clean and modern. Comfortable. We liked our room with separate area for kitchenette and seating area. From the ground level apartment we had a good view of the water. I liked the apples and oranges we could pick up at the lobby. The restaurant is open to the lobby. The atmosphere was very good, lively but not too loud. We liked having the bicycles included. We used them for one day.
What could be improved: It was hot during our visit. The AC never got the room cool enough. Especially for sleeping. The comforter was too hot, no option of a separate sheet. It,s a happening place outside of the hotel. It was sometimes noisy at night with people hanging outside. It. Was ok with windows closed but then we needed cooler air. The towels never dried well and there was no place to hang them. We were told to ask to replace the towels. We asked once during our 5 night stay. I don’t think there was a microwave oven to heat up our coffee. It was a regular oven for baking.
