The Blue Stairs sits right on one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful canals, and honestly, the location alone makes this place worth considering. You know that postcard-perfect canal house look you imagine when you think of Amsterdam? Well, this is exactly that — but actually comfortable inside. The building has this gorgeous 17th-century facade that somehow manages to feel authentic rather than touristy.

The Room Experience

My room overlooked Keizersgracht, which meant I could watch the canal boats drift by while having morning coffee. The space itself strikes this nice balance between historic charm and modern comfort — think original wooden beams paired with actually good Wi-Fi and a rainfall shower. The beds are proper comfortable too, which isn’t always a given in these old canal houses where sometimes character trumps practicality.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about this spot on Keizersgracht — you’re genuinely in Amsterdam City Centre, but it doesn’t feel chaotic. The Anne Frank House is literally a five-minute walk away, and you can reach the Jordaan district (my favorite part of town) in about the same time. Plus, there’s this excellent brown café called Café Chris just around the corner that locals actually frequent, not just tourists.

What Makes It Special

This four-star property really gets the details right in ways that matter. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — I mean, they gave me directions to a tiny cheese shop that I never would’ve found otherwise. There’s no restaurant on-site, but honestly, with this location you’d be crazy to eat hotel food anyway. The Noordermarkt is a short walk for Saturday shopping, and some of Amsterdam’s best restaurants are practically on your doorstep.

Why Guests Love It

With a 9.6 rating, it’s clear other travelers appreciate what I found here — that sweet spot between authentic Amsterdam character and genuine comfort. You get the canal house experience without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum, and the location means you can walk to most places you actually want to see. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself taking way too many photos from your window, but also sleeping really well at night.
