First Impressions
Walking up to The Balcony at Prinsen Canal apartment Amsterdam on Prinsengracht, you immediately understand why this four-star place has such incredible ratings. The canal-side location is absolutely perfect — I mean, you’re literally steps from those iconic Amsterdam waterways that everyone comes here to see. The building itself has that classic Dutch architecture that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard, but without the touristy fakeness you sometimes get.
The Apartment Experience
This isn’t your typical hotel room situation — you’re getting a proper apartment with all the space and privacy that comes with it. The kitchen is actually functional (not one of those tiny hotel kitchenettes that can barely handle making coffee), so you can grab fresh ingredients from the local markets and cook if you want to. Honestly, after a few days of Dutch cheese and stroopwafels, having the option to prepare something lighter was a lifesaver.
Location Magic
The Prinsengracht location is where this place really shines. You’re in Amsterdam City Centre, but on one of the quieter stretches of the canal — close enough to walk everywhere, but far enough from the chaos around Dam Square to actually get some sleep. The famous Anne Frank House is practically around the corner, and you can walk to the Jordaan district in about five minutes. There’s this great little café right next door where locals actually hang out, which tells you everything you need to know about the neighborhood.
What Makes It Special
The balcony — which, you know, is literally in the name — overlooks the canal and gives you those Instagram-worthy views without the crowds. I spent way too much time out there with morning coffee, watching the bikes and boats go by. The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, which some people love and others might find a bit too independent. There’s no front desk or concierge, so you’re pretty much on your own once you check in.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.5 rating makes total sense when you experience the combination of location, space, and authentic Amsterdam living. You get the canal views, the historic neighborhood feel, and enough room to spread out — all without paying those insane prices you’d find at the big hotels near Central Station. The parking situation is typical Amsterdam (meaning complicated), but honestly, you won’t need a car here anyway. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next Amsterdam trip before you’ve even checked out.
Exploring Amsterdam blends gabled houses, world-class museums, and vibrant neighborhoods glowing with canal lights.

What Our Guests Say
Beautiful stay in Amsterdam Location was perfect. Host was very hospitable. Beautiful Historic apartment
Wonderful location to base your Amsterdam break Great location on Prinsengracht - right on the canal and close to cafe’s and the tram. And most attractions (like Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Dam Square)are in walking distance. Eric was a wonderful host with clear easy instructions to meet up, and helpful with any questions thru our stay. Thoroughly recommended.
What could be improved: Not a dislike, just a ‘warning’ - staying in a canal house means you will need to deal with steep, narrow stairs. Simply the way they were designed.
Exceptional Eric's apartment was perfect in every way.
Location, comfort, access to restaurants and transport, fabulous view and Eric was the perfect host.
We were greeted with a bottle of wine and snacks and immediately felt right at home.
Highly recommend staying here.
What could be improved: It was all perfect.
Awesome apartment in a wonderful location Wonderful location right on the canal, in an excellent area of Amsterdam. Eric, the host, was wonderful. The property was clean and extremely quiet. We would definitely return.
What could be improved: Narrow stairs require some care to navigate
Enjoyed the location and accommodations after a busy day exploring Amsterdam The manager was absolutely amazing and extremely helpful. The decor was traditional ,very comfortable and cozy. Toiletry necessities were provided.
Really enjoyed opening the balcony doors for fresh air, and being able to sit and watch boats go by in the canal. There is a happening indoor / outdoor bar, a restaurant just steps away and an excellent Thai restaurant just down the street.
What could be improved: The only challenging part was navigating the very narrow curving stairs to the upper level
It was impossible to get our suitcases up the stairs and therefore had to leave them in the downstairs main hall. This made accessing our suitcases awkward
If you’re travelling with a carry on or knapsack your fine.
Having said that we managed and were not concerned about leaving our suitcases in the hall as the place is very secure and the location is very safe.
A fabulous apartment What a fabulous apartment. Eric was the perfect host and we had a fabulous break. The perfect location and full of everything we needed.
What could be improved: Nothing
Exceptional What a beautiful and charming apartment and the location was fantastic! The balcony was amazing with a view of the canals that would be hard to beat. We had a lovely stay here, Eric was so welcoming and gave us some great tips for things to do. The apartment had everything we needed and more, we were sad to leave and can’t wait to go back!
What could be improved: Nothing, it was perfect!
Exceptional This is a very comfortable apartment, which has everything. The building dates back to the 1600s, beautiful historic site, and perfect location in quite canal street. Eric, the owner, gives you a friendly welcome and offers you good advice and information. Very, very good for everything.
What could be improved: Can't really think of anything I didn't like
Perfect Amsterdam cosy home away from home. We loved staying here. Eric was so welcoming and helpful and the apartment was so cosy- we loved staying in an authentic canal house. There was a little balcony to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the world go by. It was also very central but still peaceful at night.
What could be improved: We loved everything but, as others have said, be aware that the apartment is on the 3rd and 4th floor up very narrow and steep stairs so I wouldn’t recommend it if you have mobility issues or heavy/bulky luggage.
We had an amazing stay Good facilities Great location
