First Impressions
When I first stepped through the door of 18th Century Groundfloor Canal House with patio/garden, I honestly felt like I’d been invited into someone’s private Amsterdam home — which, in a way, I had. This isn’t your typical hotel experience, and that’s exactly what makes it special. The original wooden beams and period details immediately tell you this place has stories to tell, dating back centuries when merchants first built these canal houses.
Location & Neighborhood
You can’t get more central than Singel 95 — I mean, you’re literally on one of Amsterdam‘s most famous canals in the heart of the city center. What I love about this spot is that you’re close enough to walk everywhere (the Anne Frank House is maybe ten minutes away), but the Singel canal itself is actually one of the quieter ones. You know what really struck me? In the morning, I could sit with coffee and watch the boats drift by without feeling like I was in a tourist fishbowl.
The Space
This four-star place operates more like a private apartment than a traditional hotel room, and honestly, that’s its biggest selling point. The groundfloor setup means no climbing narrow Dutch staircases with your luggage — trust me, anyone who’s been to Amsterdam will appreciate that detail. The space feels authentically historic but with all the modern comforts you actually need, including a well-equipped kitchen if you want to grab groceries from the local markets.
The Garden
Here’s where this place really shines — that private patio and garden area is like finding a secret oasis in the middle of Amsterdam. Most canal houses don’t have outdoor space, so having your own little green retreat feels almost magical. I spent my evenings out there with a glass of wine, and it was honestly the perfect way to decompress after walking around the city all day. The garden isn’t huge, but it’s thoughtfully designed and completely private.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.4 rating, this place clearly hits the mark for travelers who want something different from the standard hotel experience. What sets it apart is the combination of authentic Amsterdam character with genuine comfort and privacy. You’re staying in a piece of the city’s history, but you’re not sacrificing modern amenities or dealing with the noise that often comes with central locations. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who appreciate having their own space to spread out and really feel like they’re living in Amsterdam, even if just for a few days.

What Our Guests Say
A wonderful stay in a beautiful home We had the most amazing stay in Saskia’s home. Everything was perfect and it was lovely to meet Saskia and be shown around the home on arrival. It was spacious, quiet, very clean and incredibly comfortable beds. Saskia kindly left lots of snacks and drinks for us to enjoy. The house was in walking distance to everywhere but quiet in the evening. Thank you so much for letting us stay and we will definitely be returning!
What could be improved: Nothing! Everything was perfect!
Wonderful time! Great location and beautiful property!
What could be improved: Nothing. It was perfect!
The best apartment in Amsterdam The best apartment we have ever stayed in in Amsterdam. It was beautifully decorated and there was every amenity you could think of.
Saskia met us at the apartment and explained how everything worked. We were left with bathroom amenities, more food that we could eat and just a spectacularly beautiful apartment. The views from the kitchen is lovely and there was plenty of space for two couples with a big kitchen, lounge and outdoor area.
10/10 for this apartment.
Beautiful canal house im a wonderful location! Great central location within easy reach of all attractions. Comfortable flat with everything you might need in a home away from home. Stocked up in advance with wine and other treats. We loved it and would definitely stay again!
What could be improved: Nothing!
We would definitely recommend this property and would stay here again when we are in Amsterdam. Our friends arrived before us and were met by the host, Saskia at the property earlier than normal check-in time. She was wonderful, helpful, communicative and a gracious host. She provided extras (snacks, drinks, helpful books, maps, great guide to the property and local restaurants) that we didn't expect which made our arrival and stay absolutely wonderful. The property is conveniently located for walks around the entire canal area and not far from Centraal Station and the trams.
What could be improved: The only challenge was the narrow staircase to the bedrooms.
Excellent apartment with everything you need and ideal location Everything you could want. Even a well stocked fridge and larder - with wine & beer!
Location ideal. Finished to a high standard with lovely bathrooms
What could be improved: The staircase down to the bedrooms might be problem for some people.
Couldn't really fault anything except, though it was excellent, the price was quite high.
An Amazing Experience This 18th Century Canal House is lovely and the location is above perfect. Saskia and her husband met us, helped us with luggage, and explained the ins and outs of the flat. They have provisioned the kitchen with many food items, plus all appliances and other items are of very high quality. The house is large and comfortable, easy to adjust the heat to your preference. This was a grand experience and we loved every minute. Communication with Saskia was timely and informative. Highly, highly recommended.
Best place to have amazing stay We liked location, clean house, quiet during night, good comfy beds, a lot of food/drink from owner which surprised me a lot. I would say very thoughtful person which cares about passengers. Must booked place!
What could be improved: The only thing we found little bit problematic is that you cant open door in one bedroom ( collegue has asthma and he need it fresh air). But for other room was amazing!
Perfect, clean, friendly owners, great location! The property was perfect!
Spacious and clean. The hostess was very nice and easy to communicate with. Our fridge and pantry was stocked with snacks and drinks.
I am so glad we stayed there. The location was also close to everything.
I definitely recommend this property and would pick this again.
Out door patio was also lovely!!
I have nothing but positive things to say!!
Exceptional The host made sure to stock up the fridge upon our arrival with food and drinks, rituals shampoos conditioners and body washes were supplied, the view of the canal in the city from the kitchen window was beautiful it was the perfect location within walking distance from everything.
