First Impressions You know what caught me off guard about SWEETS – Walter Süskindbrug?

First Impressions

You know what caught me off guard about SWEETS – Walter Süskindbrug? It’s literally built into a historic bridge house over the Amstel River. I mean, when they say unique accommodations, this four-star property actually delivers on that promise. Walking up to check in, you realize you’re not just staying in Amsterdam — you’re staying in a piece of the city’s infrastructure that’s been converted into something pretty special.

The Location Magic

Honestly, the location is ridiculous in the best way possible. You’re right in Amsterdam City Centre, and I’m talking about the real heart of things — not some tourist trap version of “central.” The Amstel flows right beneath your feet, and you can walk to pretty much everything worth seeing. Couples seem to get this immediately (they rate the location a perfect 10), and I totally understand why.

There’s something romantic about falling asleep to the gentle sound of water and waking up with canal views that most hotel rooms just can’t match. The neighborhood pulses with authentic Dutch culture, from morning coffee at local cafés to evening strolls along the waterfront. You’ll discover hidden galleries, vintage shops, and restaurants that locals actually frequent rather than tourist-oriented establishments.

The Room Experience

The room itself is compact but thoughtfully designed — you have to remember, this used to be a working bridge house, so space is at a premium. What they’ve done is maximize every square inch without making it feel cramped. The windows offer views you literally cannot get anywhere else in the city, and the design keeps the historic character while adding modern touches that actually work. It’s cozy rather than spacious, but that somehow fits the whole experience perfectly.

Living Like a Local

What I really appreciated was how this place makes you feel like you’re part of the city’s daily rhythm rather than just observing it. Boats pass by your window, locals cross the bridge above, and you get this insider’s perspective on how Amsterdam actually functions. The property doesn’t try to isolate you from the urban environment — instead, it makes you part of it. You’ll find yourself watching the canal traffic like it’s the most fascinating thing in the world, and honestly, from this vantage point, it kind of is.

Why Guests Love It

This isn’t your typical hotel experience, and that’s exactly the point. SWEETS – Walter Süskindbrug works because it offers something genuinely different without sacrificing comfort or location. You’re staying in a piece of Amsterdam’s history that’s been reimagined for modern travelers, and the novelty doesn’t wear off — if anything, you appreciate it more as you settle in. The fact that it’s positioned perfectly for exploring the city center is just the bonus on top of an already memorable concept.

Hotels in Amsterdam line historic canals, museum quarters, and buzzing neighborhoods filled with cozy cafés.

Exceptional Clean little room just over the bridge from all the tourists. It was quiet, and we couldn't have asked for a better view or location. Bathroom was bigger than I thought (you can shower comfortably). A perfect cozy adventure!!

What could be improved: It was perfect. No dislikes!

We enjoyed our stay at the bridge house. It’s tiny and quirky but holds a certain charm. Because it is so tiny it’s impo The location was lovely. The view and ability to open windows directly onto the canal were exceptional. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was really good. Nice to have utensils and plates to use. The front door felt very secure. Great to have heavy curtains to cover the windows and front door. A different and enjoyable experience.

What could be improved: We were unaware it was a Murphy bed which was fine but would have been nice to know. However, the latch on the left side was not aligned and made it difficult to latch and unlatch. My husband did not have hot water in his shower on the second night. Perhaps a barrier could be put up on the outside by the canal to deter people from walking alongside of the house and canal. My husband was startled by someone as he was opening the windows and my husband startled the man as well. Would have been good to know that the code to enter the bridge house was a one time use since we are traveling and our internet can be spotty. Lastly, it would be helpful to know that that code is not being emailed to you directly from Sweets Hotel but from Booking.com. There is a delay and if I had not decided to check my booking.com app I would have waited a lot longer.

The nicest tiny place with a wonderful view and perfect location. Greatest location of all, 2 windows open directly to the canal with magnificent views .
The experience of staying in a tiny house who used to be the bridge keepers is insuperable .

What could be improved: Hosts weren’t helpful.
Check in is until 4 pm and if you want to get in before that ,they charge 75.
If you have luggage (we had 2 big pieces) there is no place to keep them before check in.
The access code was sent to my email only after I called to complain after 4:10pm
Check out is at 11 am and although they offer a hotel which will keep your luggage, it was too far from the bridge house to walk with 2 suitcases.
I didn’t mind but it was a Murphy bed.
No bottles of water
Coffee was bad .

I think it’s awesome, it’s unique, you can flex around you rented a HOUSE in the center of Amsterdam 😂 I’d stay there ag This was a very unique experience, and such a good accommodation for a decent price in a perfect location! I’ve loved the attention to details: the welcoming card written by hand, the perfectly white towels, bathrobes, and slippers, drip coffee, little fridge…everything is done with a good taste, and it’s very cozy. There is also an AC there! And the view from the window is marvelous!

What could be improved: We didn’t necessarily dislike it, but it must be considered during a longer stays: shower is not separated (=there is no curtain) in the bathroom, so this might be not very convenient, and the room is rather small. The only thing, which I was not very comfortable with in the beginning, was the feeling of being exposed: it’s a house right in the heart of the city, there are a lot of people passing by, and you are only separated by a thin wall 🥲(but I must say, the sound isolation is great, I almost didn’t hear any noise from the street). But this is a part of the experience, which in the end of the day I was totally fine with.

It was a unique experience. The property is very well located

What could be improved: It was a bit dark. Also, the bed and table were malfunctioning when we got there. But we’re repaired as soon as we told the staff. So our second night was more comfortable

Amazing experience, comfortable tiny home on the river Incredible location, staying really “on the river”. Very smartly arranged tiny home, with comfortable bed, possibility to make a coffee, smart solutions to make the stay enjoyable. There was not much noise. It is a real experience, nothing like staying in a chain hotel.
