First Impressions
When I first heard about SWEETS – Oosterdoksdraaibrug, I honestly thought it was some kind of candy shop. Turns out, it’s actually one of the most unique places I’ve ever stayed in Amsterdam — you’re literally sleeping inside a converted bridge house. I mean, how often do you get to say that? This four-star property sits right on the Oosterdokskade, and the moment you arrive, you realize you’re not dealing with your typical hotel experience.
The Location Magic
The location is absolutely unbeatable — I’m talking about being in the real heart of Amsterdam here. You’re positioned right between Amsterdam Central Station and the trendy NDSM area, which means you can walk to pretty much everything that matters. What I love is that you’re close enough to hear the gentle hum of the city, but the water around you creates this peaceful buffer. Couples seem to get this immediately (they rate the location a perfect 10), and honestly, I can see why — there’s something incredibly romantic about being surrounded by water in the middle of such a vibrant city.
The Bridge House Experience
The room itself is unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere. You’re staying in what used to be the operator’s house for this historic drawbridge, so the space has this fascinating industrial-meets-cozy vibe. The windows offer panoramic views of the IJ river and the city skyline — I spent way too much time just watching boats pass by. The design is minimalist but warm, with clever use of the compact space that makes everything feel intentional rather than cramped. There’s a small kitchenette that’s perfect for making morning coffee while you watch Amsterdam wake up.
Getting Around and Practicalities
What’s brilliant about this spot is how connected you are to everything. Central Station is literally a few minutes’ walk, so you can hop on trains to anywhere in the Netherlands. The ferry to NDSM (which is free, by the way) leaves right nearby, and that whole area has become this amazing cultural hub with restaurants, markets, and events. Parking can be tricky in this part of Amsterdam — well, it’s tricky everywhere in Amsterdam — but there are options nearby if you’re driving. Most people just use the excellent public transport connections though.
Why Guests Love It
This place gets a 9.6 rating for good reason — it’s not just about having a place to sleep, it’s about having an experience you’ll actually remember. You know what really struck me? The silence at night, despite being so central. The water acts like a natural sound barrier, so you get the best of both worlds. Plus, there’s something special about staying in a piece of Amsterdam’s working history — this bridge still operates, so you’re part of the city’s daily rhythm. It’s perfect for couples looking for something different, or really anyone who wants to experience Amsterdam from a completely unique perspective rather than just another hotel room.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Amsterdam before autumn brings golden leaves, pumpkin soups, and cozy canal reflections.

What Our Guests Say
Absolutely fantastic apartment with the most amazing view We loved sitting on the terrace watching the boats sale past! It was so comfortable and completely soundproof too. We will definitely be back!
What could be improved: No cupboard for clothes
One of a kind Really interesting accommodation, a lot of people walking around asked us what is it.
View from the terrace is great.
Rooms are spacious enough, there are two ACs, sound proofing is excellent.
There were three of us so we had one king bed and one single bed available.
What could be improved: Bench on the terrace could be more comfortable.
Wifi signal is weak on one of the terraces.
Nice property terrible hosts Location and building are great, the hosts however are awful and are miss selling the property
What could be improved: The accommodation was sold as sleeps 4 and has more than one bed, however on arrival there was only bed and no extra bedding, I contacted the hosts who offered to correct the issue half way through our stay however there would be a £75 charge for it. One of us had to sleep on a rock hard Dutch couch for 2 nights.
You will see from the photo I have added exactly what I thought I was booking, clearly it shows for 2 people and includes 2 singles and a double, and says all charges are paid.
When the guys from the hotel reply to this review they act all nice and professional, however this isn't the case when they speak in person or via booking.com they are very rude and quite obnoxious
Incredible stay, host went above and beyond to make this special for our anniversary. Unique property so close to all the action in city centre but so peaceful upon return.
Views are incredible, such a spacious private apartment. Desperate to come back!
Exceptional Absolutely great place to stay in Amsterdam. Adequate facilities, perhaps only a coffee machine would be useful. Excellent location right next to the center and the main train station, yet in a quiet place. The biggest advantage is of course the fantastic views in all directions, especially of the water and the lifting or swinging bridges. There are many boats moving around during the day and we didn't want to leave for excursions at all, as we could just sit in comfort and watch the bustle on the water.
Worth every € This is a must place to stay, fabulous location, views outstanding and wonderful place to spend a day watching the river traffic, the pedestrians and cyclists making their way over the bridge. Full of light snd for us blue skies and sun. A great use of space that otherwise would be lost as technology moves forward. A handwritten welcome note on arrival and easy to access through the app, well thought out design and furnishings.
Exceptional Tutto perfetto! Vista panoramica mozzafiato!
Pulizia, posizione e comfort. Stupendo 🥰

Absolutely stunning property, the best hotel I've ever stayed in by a mile! A very original and beautifully restored property. The attention to detail was faultless. We loved watching the boats go by the panoramic windows. Although close to Central Station, it felt very private and peaceful.
