First Impressions
When I first heard about SWEETS – Nieuwe Amstelbrug, I honestly thought it was some kind of candy shop. Turns out, it’s actually one of the most unique places you can stay in Amsterdam — you’re literally sleeping in a converted bridge house. I mean, how often do you get to say you slept on a bridge? The whole concept is pretty brilliant, really. These old bridge operator houses were just sitting there empty, and someone had the genius idea to turn them into tiny hotels. It’s the kind of accommodation that makes your trip instantly memorable.
The Location Magic
This particular bridge sits right on the Amstel River, and honestly, the location is incredible. You’re in this four-star spot that feels like you have your own private piece of Amsterdam. The area around Amsteldijk is what locals call “the real Amsterdam” — not touristy, but still close enough to everything that matters. I watched boats drift by from the window, and you know what? It never got old. Couples especially seem to love it here, and I can see why — there’s something pretty romantic about having the river as your backyard. The views alone make this destination worth the visit.
The Bridge House Experience
The room itself is compact but cleverly designed — think of it as a very stylish tiny house. Everything has its place, and there’s this cozy feeling that comes from being in such a unique space. The windows wrap around the structure, so you get views in multiple directions. During the day, you can watch Amsterdam life happen around you, and at night, the city lights reflect off the water in this really peaceful way. It’s not huge, but honestly, you’re not here to hide inside anyway. The design maximizes every square inch beautifully.
Practical Comforts
What surprised me was how well-equipped everything is for such a small space. The kitchenette has everything you need for simple meals, which is great because Amsterdam’s grocery stores are actually pretty fun to explore. There’s no parking right at the bridge (obviously), but you can find spots nearby, and honestly, you’ll probably want to walk or bike everywhere anyway. The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s incredibly cool place than a traditional hotel. You’ll appreciate the thoughtful touches throughout.
Why Guests Love It
This isn’t your typical Amsterdam hotel experience, and that’s exactly the point. You’re staying in a piece of the city’s infrastructure, surrounded by water and local life. The morning coffee tastes better when you’re watching the sunrise over the Amstel, and evening walks along the river become part of your routine. It’s one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special — which, honestly, you have. Just don’t expect room service or a concierge, because the bridge itself is pretty much the main attraction here. This property offers an unforgettable stay.

What Our Guests Say
A special spot at a prime location! Close proximity to nice bakeries, cafes and restaurants. Went to several markets the day after. Bed was comfortable.
What could be improved: It was fine. Met my expectations.
Exceptional Was hard to find walked by it a few times not knowing it was a house. Thx it was beautiful
Exceptional Location, cosy, hand written welcome note, everything we needed.
What could be improved: We loved everything!
Very good The whole concept of bridge house was great experience, how everything was fitted in such a small space. As well it was stylish. Evenings and mornings with river view were stunning, especially when it was foggy one night.
What could be improved: One disadvantage was probably noise level, isolation with outside world could be better.
Beautiful and comfy It was the perfect location, the room was cosy and really nice! I wanted only the option to change sheets and towels, but it was really comfy and beautiful ❤️❤️
What could be improved: I wanted cleaning supplies, for toilet , and cleaning sheets and towels
Good location, compact and unique house The house was nice and clean. Little, but good for two. Bed was nice, also the surroundings. There was nice pub nearby and good restaurants on the other side of the canal. Jbl-was nice.
What could be improved: There was just one trashpin in the toilet/house, or so we though. Noise from the outside was clear, but we knew about this. Earblugs are mandatory! The fridge was too little. I also would have liked that there would have been hair conditioner, now there was only shampoo/body was. Mirror in the bathroom would be nice.
A perfect 'tiny house' getaway. A unique experience for those that like something a little different What a fantastic and unique place to stay in Amsterdam. Room with a view and more, watching the world go by outside on the river and over the bridge. A "tiny house" in every sense, with great packaging. It's not big, but it has everything you'd need. Bed super comfy with a lovely quilt & great pillows - a rarity here I often find.
The perfect, unique pad for a couple of nights away. It might be a little crowded for 2 if you're going to spend much time indoors, but the idea of a place like this is to get out and explore the local surroundings. Plenty of nice places to hang, eat, drink and admire art and the world around along the river within a few minutes walk on either side of the bridge.
As long as you expect the odd characteristics you would consider reasonable for an historic place such as this, and the packaging feat that means it won't have lots of space, but feels remarkably spacious for such a small place, then you'll love it.
What could be improved: Not much - as long as you come expecting what this is - a very small space on a noisy intersection. Neither of these were a problem to me, so I had no issues with the accommodation. The only one minor niggle would be the wifi was very slow, but it's not a place to hang around indoors looking at internet
Not fit for purpose. A very uncomfortable stay. Location and view the window
What could be improved: Checkin is very late at 4pm and even then it wasn’t ready and we had to wait outside in the rain. This place is so tiny it isn’t fit for purpose. It should only be seen as a novelty accommodation for one night for one person. There is absolutely no room for two people to live. If we were at the property we had to sit on the bed. No wardrobes for clothes, the tiny toilet and shower had drainage problems when showering and flushing toilet and the only source of water for drinking was the tap of the basin next to the toilet. There was barely room to dress. Also because it sits right on the footpath near an intersection and bridge it’s very noisy. A very uncomfortable stay.
Very good The bed was very comfortable, with a superb view on top of that.
The split level (no less than three) was nice and with a good design.
What could be improved: The curtains did not do anything against the early morning sun.
In the bathroom, after flushing the toilet, there was a lingering sewer smell.
Small house with nice arrangement The staff responded very quickly
What could be improved: the street traffic
