First Impressions
I’ll be honest — I walked past SWEETS – Kattenslootbrug twice before realizing this was actually my hotel. You’re not looking for a traditional lobby here, because this four-star gem is literally a converted bridge house sitting right over one of Amsterdam‘s canals. The whole concept is pretty wild when you think about it — sleeping in what used to be the bridge operator’s quarters from 1928.
The Experience
This isn’t your typical hotel room situation. The space feels more like a tiny historic apartment that happens to have canal water flowing directly underneath your bed. The original brick walls and industrial details are still there, but they’ve added modern touches that actually work — good lighting, comfortable furniture, and a compact but functional kitchenette. You know what’s surreal? Hearing boats pass by at night while you’re lying in bed.
Location & Neighborhood
Nassaukade puts you right in the Westerpark area, which honestly feels more like where locals actually live rather than tourist central. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the Anne Frank House, but you’re also close to some excellent Indonesian places that most visitors never find. The bridge connects two sides of the neighborhood, so you’re literally in the middle of everything — though “middle” here means floating above a quiet residential canal.
Practical Considerations
Here’s what you need to know: there’s no parking right at the bridge (obviously), but there are spots nearby if you’re driving. The check-in process is different too — they’ll meet you at the bridge with keys and a quick walkthrough. The kitchen setup is basic but enough for coffee and simple meals, which is perfect since you’ll probably want to eat out anyway.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this place isn’t for everyone — if you need a concierge or room service, book elsewhere. But if you want to stay somewhere that your friends back home will actually remember hearing about, this works. The novelty factor is real, but it’s backed up by thoughtful design and a location that gives you a genuine slice of Amsterdam life. Plus, the 8.5 rating speaks for itself — people leave here with stories, not just decent sleep.
Amsterdam’s apartments welcome long stays with rooftop terraces, boat rental access, and tram links to hidden courtyards.

What Our Guests Say
We enjoyed this cozy spot right next to the canal. Would definitely recommend this place in Amsterdam Location - very easy to get to by train/tram from the airport.
-loved being right on the canal
-easy to get to central station
-extremely comfy bed
-great AC/heat
What could be improved: Not being able to check in till 4pm
Very quirky little accommodation. Great location if you are able for a 20 min walk into the center. Quirky. Different.
What could be improved: Couldn't offer us an an early check-in in of any sort, without cost, even though we had requested it. Didn't get the key code until bang on 4pm, even though we had seen the cleaning team in and out prior to that
A unique canal-side stay Such a unique place to stay! Going to bed seeing the calm water and waking up to such a gorgeous view right in the water made everything about the stay worth it. The bed was extremely comfy, the provided slippers were a great add, and the multitude of towels was ideal.
What could be improved: The only downside is the noise from the streetcars passing by, but the provided earplugs blocked out much of the noise, and between 12:30am and 6am it is nice and quiet.
Lovely quirky place to stay - nothing wrong with the accommodation but would rather be closer to town next time The quirkiness , very comfortable , very novel
What could be improved: Felt slightly vulnerable due to the obscurity of the bridge house
Great stay, really cosy, good location Comfortable and good location
What could be improved: Spray paint outside
Exactly what we needed. Small but perfectly formed. We had just enough space for two. Personally the noise didn't bother us, as we were out for most of the time. We loved watching the boats come past and the bridge being raised too. I contacted the hosts for an iron and it was in our room before we even got back. It's about 20 minutes walk to the main part of town, but there's lovely restaurants and supermarkets nearby.
What could be improved: Given the age of the building, it is a little damp and there is some mould on the curtains. The place overall is clean though. It wasn't enough to put us off returning.
Great price for a cozy and quirky stay The apartment itself was cozy, it had great view to the canals and it was pretty spacious for the price.
What could be improved: We found some hair on the bed, which led us to think that the bed clothes weren't changed. The house also has a bunch of graffiti on the outside which gives it this bad aspect.
Superb Very easy to check in with the flexipass app, excellent communication from sweets with the access code allowed me to check in earlier than expected. The room was very comfortable and clean.
What could be improved: The trams are a little noisy but I was aware of this before hand and it wasn't a problem
Superb A beautiful little setting overlooking the water, it truly is quite a unique way to stay in Amsterdam and one that I'd recommend to my friends easily. A very small space, but they've designed it perfectly. Every amenity that you'd need and the layout makes it feel larger than it is. Was a joy to look out the windows in the morning and watch the boats go by with a hot drink.
What could be improved: Several reviews mentioned this, and I get it now - it's noisy. Not in a way that would ruin your trip, honestly, it all becomes background noise, and you zone it out. If you're out during the day, which you would be, then it's really not a problem. The tram passes right by you, the bridge, of course, is operational and so lifts at times to allow boats to pass by. All of this is quite a noise, and the vibrations can be quite noticeable in your little bridge house.
The perfect tranquil yet urban weekend stay! Accessed the room with an app, then used a card from inside the room for access the rest of the journey. And they’d decorated the room for my birthday!
What could be improved: Worth noting it’s close to the tram line, so could be tough for light sleepers.
