You know what caught me off guard about SWEETS – IJdoornlaanbrug? It’s literally a converted bridge keeper’s house sitting right on the water in Amsterdam Noord. I mean, when they say unique accommodation, they usually oversell it — but this actually delivers on that promise. The whole concept feels like something out of a design magazine, but in the best possible way.
The Space
The room is compact but thoughtfully designed, with huge windows that frame the canal like living artwork. There’s a tiny kitchenette that’s perfectly functional for making morning coffee or heating up those stroopwafels from the market. Honestly, the space feels more like a cozy studio apartment than a traditional hotel room — which makes sense given the building’s history as an actual working bridge house.
Location & Neighborhood
Being in Amsterdam Noord might sound off the beaten path, but it’s actually refreshing to escape the tourist crowds for a bit. The ferry ride across the IJ river takes maybe ten minutes, and there’s something romantic about that little commute to the city center. Plus, you’re surrounded by this interesting mix of industrial heritage and trendy cafes that most visitors never discover.
The Experience
What makes this four-star property special isn’t the amenities — there’s no fancy restaurant or spa downstairs. It’s the whole experience of sleeping in a piece of Amsterdam’s infrastructure history. The sound of water lapping against the building at night is surprisingly soothing, and watching boats pass by your window during the day never gets old. There’s limited parking nearby, but honestly, you won’t need a car here.

Not a bad spot but wouldn't rebook Decent vibe, cozy. Quiet area, not too far from centre about half an hour on the bus then train. Nice view from window
What could be improved: Pretty small, no kitchen (I know this is listed in the amenties, however it's a bit annoying having to go out and spend money every meal), mini fridge is provided, but it's MINI. Can barely fit anything... The toilet is downstairs, separate from everything else, so it can be a bit annoying going up and down every time. It can get pretty loud and doesn't look appealing from the outside.
I know it says it can get pretty loud, but I didn't realise that before booking and unfortunately could not cancel. If I could have, I probably would have.
Superb Good view
One of our coziest and most comfortable stays. The place was really cozy and warm. The view from the windows was mesmerizing!! Also the bed was extremely soft and comfortable.
What could be improved: The bath sink was pretty small and it wasn’t easy to use.

We were disappointed. We felt that the pictures of the place didn’t explain the fact that the building is located on a v The property was relatively close to my family who lives in the Kadoelen area.
What could be improved: The concept of a Bridge building/house ie neat but it ends there. Of course this is my own opinion as a 60+ year old person. The house vibrates each time a large vehicle crosses the bridge. The traffic on the bridge is substantial, almost constant. The noise from the traffic is disturbing. Yes you can use the earplugs supplied but who wants to use earplugs on vacation and pay 200 euros per night on top of that?
Some blinds were broken on the windows so I ended up sleeping with earplugs as well as with a blindfold.
The bathroom is downstairs but it has only a very small sink so you will probably brush your teeth upstairs. But upstairs you don’t have a mirror nor a place to hang a towel.

Loud and cosy Theoretically a cozy apartment in a special location with no one else near you! If you want to party or be loud it’s perfect
What could be improved: The street is sooooo loud! I am personally used to actually sleep and live right next to a very crowded street but this is something else! The street is due to the bridge construction even louder than a regular street and the windows and walls are not very noise cancelling! It’s just too loud and it is nearly impossible to get a good sleep, even though the bed and everything is very comfy!

Exceptional Location is good not far from train station and with the train you are in the city in 10 mins. Very beautiful interior. There was a speaker you can use coffee, tea, small fridge. Everything you need for a short trip.
What could be improved: Directly on a main road but the loudness didn’t interrupt me. It wasn’t a problem for me.
we really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back! it was cosy and quirky! loved the location.. very private with being the only ones around.
