First Impressions
Walking up to Sunflower Amsterdam on Spuistraat, you know you’ve found something different. This three-star hotel sits right in the heart of Amsterdam City Centre, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has that classic Amsterdam charm — narrow, tall, and squeezed between other historic structures like they’re all holding each other up.
Location & Getting Around
You’re literally steps from everything that matters here. Spui square is right around the corner, which means you’ve got the Friday book market and plenty of cafés within a two-minute walk. The tram stops are so close you’ll barely need to check the map — and trust me, after a few days of wandering Amsterdam’s winding streets, you’ll appreciate having such easy access to public transport. Dam Square and the Red Light District? Both are an easy stroll away.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — exactly what you’d expect from a well-run Amsterdam hotel. The bed was comfortable enough, and the bathroom, while small, had everything I needed. What really impressed me was how quiet it felt despite being on such a busy street. The windows actually do their job of keeping the city noise at bay, which isn’t always a given in this part of town.
Amenities & Practical Details
There’s a small restaurant area where they serve breakfast, and the staff there genuinely seem to care about getting your day started right. The WiFi works well throughout the building — something I always worry about in these older Amsterdam properties. You won’t find a spa or elaborate amenities here, but what they do offer feels genuine rather than flashy.
Why Guests Love It
Look, with a 9.2 rating, this place clearly gets something right. I think it’s the combination of being in the absolute center of Amsterdam without the tourist-trap feel you get at some hotels. The staff actually know the neighborhood and can point you toward the good local spots — not just the obvious tourist attractions. For the price point, you’re getting solid value in a city where hotel rates can be absolutely brutal, especially during peak season.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Fantastic location and service, a really great find.
Superb Amazing location, short walk distance from almost everything. You choose whether it’s quiet Jordaan or busy Damrak, both are literally around the corner. The apartment is rather small but it had everything I needed for a comfy 3 night stay.
What could be improved: The apartment is situated in an old Dutch house, with the steepest stairs I’ve seen in my life. If you have a lot of luggage this might become a huge issue.
Couldn’t recommend it more would stay here again any time! Everything was brilliant here. From the get go, communication with Chris the host was super easy and he reached out to organise check in time a few days before we arrived. When we arrived he was prompt to meet us and gave us a tour of the apartment as well as creating a booklet full of important information about Amsterdam (do’s & dont’s, nearest cafes, grocery stores, museums etc.) which was very helpful and super thoughtful! He even left some fruit, waffles, juice and beer for us! The room itself was perfect with just enough space to be comfortable and not cramped, plus it had a smart tv and LED lights for great nights in. Its location was in perfect walking distance of everything.
What could be improved: The stairs were very steep so just be weary if that’s any issue for you, however we found we got used to it and it didn’t take away from the experience at all!
Owner was extremely helpful lugging luggage up and down the steep entrance stairs. Clean, bright, friendly staff, good location to Anne Frank house, shops and restaurants.
What could be improved: Lack of drawer and hanger space in street unit. Can be noisy early mornings from footsteps coming from upstairs dwelling.
Great host, lovely room and central to many city attractions. Great position in the city, walkable to many sites.
What could be improved: The steps are steep to the rooms. No problem to us but could be for some.
A good address Extremely well placed, nice and caring staff, clean and well equipped room. Simply perfect.
Exceptional It is small but nice apartment, location is great, host was very careful and give as excellent service including cleaning every day.
Exceptional Host was amazing, friendly and put a few beers and treats in the room. Which were renewed when the room was cleaned. We had a bedroom a bathroom and a small room with table perfect for all the luggage. Location is very central, walked everywhere from there.
What could be improved: Its not negatives, as i expected it based from reviews, but worth knowing: steep stairs at entrance, more like a ladder, but that's common in Amsterdam, but if you have a buggy or children it might be tricky. No view from a room except small courtyard. But again if you are in Amsterdam and sit in the room looking at window, you are doing something wrong...
Exceptional Really nice staff and great surviced
