First Impressions
Walking up to Singel Hotel Amsterdam, you’ll notice it occupies three classic canal houses right on one of the city’s most famous waterways. The building itself tells Amsterdam’s story — those narrow, tall facades are quintessentially Dutch, and honestly, stepping inside feels like you’re entering a piece of the city’s history. It’s not trying to be flashy or modern, which I actually appreciate. This three-star property has that authentic Amsterdam charm that some of the bigger chain hotels just can’t replicate.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying on Singel — you’re literally in the heart of everything, but it doesn’t feel touristy or overwhelming. I mean, couples give this location a 9.7 rating, and I get why. You can walk to Dam Square in about five minutes, but you’re also perfectly positioned to explore the quieter side streets that most visitors miss. The Bloemenmarkt (flower market) is practically around the corner, and you know what? Being right on the canal means you’ll have those postcard views without paying premium hotel prices.
The Rooms
The rooms are what you’d expect from a historic canal house — they’re not huge, but they’re thoughtfully designed to make the most of the space. Some have canal views (definitely worth requesting), and the decor strikes a nice balance between traditional Dutch elements and modern comfort. The beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms are compact but functional. Actually, I found the rooms quite cozy rather than cramped, which is sort of the Amsterdam way — everything’s designed to be efficient and welcoming.
Breakfast Experience
The breakfast setup here is pretty solid for a three-star hotel. They offer both continental and buffet options, which gives you flexibility depending on whether you’re rushing out to catch a morning canal cruise or planning a leisurely start to your day. The buffet has all the Dutch basics — good bread, local cheeses, and decent coffee. It’s served in a charming room that feels very Amsterdam, with those large windows letting in plenty of natural light. Nothing fancy, but it’ll definitely fuel you up for a day of walking around the city.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Singel Hotel Amsterdam apart is how it captures the essence of staying in Amsterdam without the premium price tag. You’re sleeping in a real piece of the city’s architecture, you can step outside and immediately feel like a local rather than a tourist, and the staff genuinely seems to care about helping you discover their city. The location score of 9.6 isn’t just a number — it reflects how perfectly positioned you are to experience Amsterdam the way it’s meant to be experienced, on foot and at your own pace. For travelers who want authenticity over amenities, this place delivers exactly what Amsterdam is all about.

What Our Guests Say
Would stay here again as I enjoyed much of it but would insist on getting what I had reserved. Beautiful location with a room with a view of a central canal in Amsterdam. Beds slept well and staff were extremely delightful. Would absolutely stay here again. Nice open space on main floor to relax and visit.
What could be improved: I reserved a room with three twins and a canal view. Upon arrival discovered the room to be set up for a king and a twin. It was frustrating due to the dynamics of the group it was inappropriate to have a king and not two twins in their place.
Superb Location, ambient, comfort rooms
What could be improved: To stay only one night!
Great hotel to stay in the center of Amsterdam, clean, comfortable with helpful and friendly staff. Location was great and very close to train station and Anne Franks House plus other activities, canal boat rides etc
The breakfast was very good and good value for central Amsterdam. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel was very clean and the beds - although small were very comfortable. There was a lift - which is not available in many hotels.
What could be improved: The rooms are very compact and there is not much space - especially to unpack - hanging space was very limited. However I think that this is perhaps the norm in Amsterdam as the buildings are old and have a very small foot print. There was very limited ability to access fresh air as the window openings were restricted - I guess this was for safety but was a shame.
Superb Great location
Great location and staff Great location and staff
We would stay there again! Clean and comfortable. Location is great to see the city. We walked with luggage from the train station (about 10 minute walk) (after taking train from the airport into town). Staff was great. We stored luggage until check in time.
What could be improved: We were fine, but just know the room is small (build in attic of buildings), with window viewing a wall.
Would recommend Very close to everything, nice rooms and we also had a view to the canal, definitely recommend
What could be improved: When we checked out the receptionist said she gave us 2 key cards the previous day, even though we just received 1 card, although it wasn't a big problem at the end, I don't like being lied to.
Loved entrance to building and amenities. Location and atmosphere were great for canals/shops/wandering around t Loved the friendly and informative staff and the location for me was perfect.
What could be improved: All was great!
Excellent location. The hotel is prime location to walk around, for the trains and canal cruises etc
What could be improved: The rooms were hot, but there were fans.
Great location and clean Location is great, secure facilities. Snacks and drinks are real good
What could be improved: No air conditioning, had to use fans the facility provided
