First Impressions
Walking up to Ruby Emma Hotel Amsterdam, you immediately notice it’s not trying too hard to impress — and that’s actually what makes it work. The building sits quietly on Amstelvlietstraat in the Oost district, with a clean, understated facade that hints at the thoughtful design waiting inside. You know what struck me first? The lobby feels more like a friend’s really well-designed living room than a typical hotel entrance.
Location & Neighborhood
Honestly, staying in Amsterdam‘s Oost area was one of those happy discoveries I didn’t expect. You’re away from the tourist chaos of the city center, but tram connections get you anywhere you need to go in about fifteen minutes. The neighborhood has this authentic Dutch residential feel — I mean, you’ll see actual locals doing their grocery shopping and walking their dogs, not just other travelers taking selfies.
The Room Experience
The rooms at this four-star property are surprisingly spacious for Amsterdam standards, which anyone who’s stayed here before will tell you is no small feat. Everything feels purposeful without being minimal to the point of cold — warm wood accents, clever storage solutions, and windows that actually open (trust me, you’ll appreciate this). The beds are genuinely comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable, and the blackout curtains work properly.
Dining & Social Spaces
The ground-floor restaurant and bar area becomes this natural gathering spot throughout the day. Breakfast is solid — not fancy, but well-executed with local touches that feel authentic rather than performed. What I really liked was how the space transforms in the evening; locals actually come here for drinks, which always tells you something good about a place’s vibe.
Why Guests Love It
Ruby Emma gets the balance right between design-conscious and actually livable. You’ll find thoughtful touches like proper lighting for reading, enough outlets where you need them, and staff who seem to genuinely enjoy helping rather than just going through the motions. The parking situation is straightforward too — always a relief in Amsterdam. It’s the kind of place where you settle in quickly and find yourself recommending it to people months later, not because it’s flashy, but because it just works really well.

What Our Guests Say
Modern, new and tech hotel Very modern hotel with a lot of technology usage and lovely rooms. Loved the bathroom and bedroom a lot. It was spacious and very comfortable. The location is excellent and close to the metro and a lovely restaurant. I loved the self check in process.
What could be improved: The breakfast was very bad and poor service. There are no irons in the room, had to use an iron on a different floor. This was highly inconvenient.
A Great Hotel in Amsterdam I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was right on point, beautifully designed with great taste and attention to even the smallest details. I couldn’t recommend it more.
What could be improved: There was also a misunderstanding about the price, which included breakfast, but the hotel staff did not acknowledge it and were unwilling to assist in resolving the issue. In addition, the shower was clogged and overflushed, but the team cleaned the room promptly.
Exceptional Hotel bikes are good
What could be improved: A bit far from the centre
Great place and will be definitely staying there again. Location was great. Train station into Amsterdam central was a two minute walk from the hotel. Trains run frequently which is amazing. There is a supermarket around the corner and McDonald’s is across the street. The room was a good size and very clean. The bar for tea and drinks was also a great addition.
What could be improved: Honestly there wasn’t anything my family and I did not like.
A++ Cleanliness and the staff!
What could be improved: Nothing, or maybe a little bit far from city center (but good communications).
a very comfortable abode A convenient location, 1-minute's walk from a railway station, in a suburban neighbourhood without many shops and restaurants. The room has plenty of space with clever interior, high tech lighting. There are big windows revealing a similarly big urban landscape view. The building itself has a number of environmentally conscious features, including an underground energy storage aquifer. The staff are lovely, there is a sumptuous buffet breakfast if you are feeling rich, but its worth the money.
Superb Good location, clean, modern, high tech, would stay there again
What could be improved: The first room we got had no AC it was broken, but then they were cooperative and changed the room.
Exceptional Great room equipment, completely wheelchair accessible (which I had explicitly asked for).
Amenities were great. And the bed was very comfortable.
What could be improved: It was great to be able to get tea from the bar downstairs, but it would have been even better to have a watter kettle in the room. But that is really the only thing...So in total, it was great:-)
Nice hotel ! The staff is very friendly and helpfull, very clean Rooms with amazing view. Metro station is few minutes away from the hotel but overall it is a bit far away from the old town center.
