First Impressions
Walking into Royal Amsterdam Hotel on Rembrandtplein feels like stepping into something that’s been here forever — and honestly, that’s exactly what you want in Amsterdam. The lobby has this warm, traditional Dutch charm without feeling stuffy, and you immediately know you’re in the heart of things. I mean, you can literally hear the buzz from the square outside, which might worry some people, but it’s actually part of the appeal.
Location & Neighborhood
Rembrandtplein is one of those spots where locals and tourists mix naturally — it’s not just a tourist trap, though it definitely gets lively at night. You’re a five-minute walk from the flower market and maybe ten from the Anne Frank House, but what I really love is how you can duck into quiet side streets within seconds. The hotel sits right on the square, so you get the energy when you want it and room service when you don’t.
The Rooms
The rooms at this four-star place are what I’d call “Amsterdam cozy” — which means they’re smaller than American hotel rooms but thoughtfully designed. The windows are tall and let in great light, and honestly, the view of the square is worth the occasional street noise. What surprised me was how quiet it actually gets at night with the windows closed — their soundproofing is better than you’d expect for a building this old.
Dining & Amenities
The restaurant downstairs serves solid Dutch breakfast — real cheese, good bread, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around all morning. You know what’s nice? They don’t try to be fancy with it, just fresh and filling. There’s no spa or anything like that, but the staff will point you toward great local spots, and they actually know what they’re talking about rather than just reading from a script.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the fanciest place in Amsterdam, but it gets the fundamentals right. The location puts you in the middle of everything without feeling overwhelming, the staff treats you like a person rather than a credit card, and the whole experience feels genuinely Dutch. If you want to feel like you’re staying in Amsterdam rather than just visiting it, Royal Amsterdam Hotel delivers on that promise without breaking the bank.

What Our Guests Say
Very good It’s a nice hotel. The guy at check out was very kind. The beds were comfortable.
What could be improved: There isn’t a charge outlet by the bed
Very good The hotel is located right in the center of Amsterdam! The staff was polite, the room was clean and spacious enough. The cards worked well and everything went smoothly.
What could be improved: The breakfast was not diverse, pretty simple.
Worth it just for the location Location is fantastic. Central to pretty much anywhere you want to go in Amsterdam. The view of the square was great too.
What could be improved: Room was a bit small, and the elevator was maybe designed with Oompa Loompas in mind.
Pleasant Location
What could be improved: Very very small bedroom and very small twin beds
Noce hotel for a couple of days in Amsterdam The location and clean
What could be improved: The room is very small
It was lovely definitely be coming again The hotel an the location was amazing
What could be improved: The receptionist one guy was very polite and welcoming a one was rude and upset. My daughter the room was small we stayed in an our daughters room was better had tea an coffee in an our room didn’t
Hotel was clean, perfect location! Slightly rude staff memeber Amazing location!! The room was spotless, also had a balcony room which was very spacious compared to my mum and dads room which was rather small.
Hotel is quite quiet considering it is on as busier square, perfect for families!
What could be improved: Certain staff members were very rude and dismissive! My parents, me and my sister all stayed in this hotel together. My parents had got there a few days earlier and only got charged a tourism fee as told on booking.com which was fine, however when me and my sister arrived 2 days later one of the staff informed us that we had to pay a €100 deposit for the room! Which in other cases I completely understand but as stated before my parents didn’t get charged this, we tried to explain this to the staff member and he was very cruel and didn’t seem to care much about us or our problem! However we did have a lovely experience with one staff member, I’m not sure of her name but she had blonde hair and helped out when me and my sister didn’t have an adaptor, so she managed to find us one!
Pleasant The location was great
What could be improved: The price was exorbitant - the size of room was
extremely small
Excelent relacione quality- price Excellent location! Simpaty of the team!
What could be improved: Room os small and would be more cleaned..
Great location, wonderful staff, good value, enjoyable hotel This was my second stay at this hotel. We extended our 5 day visit to 7 days here! The location is really great. Perfect for walking to most popular tourist attractions and museums or you can access the tram/trolley directly across from the hotel. There is also a full-sized supermarket just a few feet away for all your needs! The staff is very accommodating, especially Julia (she was outstanding), the breakfast was actually a good variety and I would recommend adding it to your stay. They have a chef 5 days a week and on those days the breakfast was even better with the most wonderful, creamy eggs and some hot items. The building is older (as is most of the central hotels) but the bathroom was updated, modern and comfortable. It was stocked with liquid soap, shampoo and conditioner. A hairdryer was supplied in the bathroom as well. We had a full shower AND a separate bathtub. A full length mirror was just outside the bathroom in the hall. The beds & bedding were comfortable. We had the large room that fit 4ppl with a pull-out sofa bed. There was a desk area with a working kettle if you wanted to make some tea. There is an in-room safe in the closet. We tried the restaurant once for dinner and we were pleased everything was great. We also tried the Indonesian restaurant next door and enjoyed that too. Overall, it really is a nice hotel to stay for our price point and I would be happy to come back again.
What could be improved: Rembrandt Square (although much quieter than central Amsterdam) can still be noisy if your room is facing the square. The windows are not insulated well. You will find people can be out walking around at 3 and 4am!!! Our solution was easy....sleep with earplugs or your noise canceling earbuds! (or request a rear facing room) Housekeeping did a nice job of tidying things up, (and the bathrooms were always clean) however, I was not happy with how the floors were cleaned. They really needed a proper mopping. The housekeeper came in with a little spray-bottle to spritz the the floor and push a mop. My slippers needed to be tossed at the end of my stay as they were a bit too dirty to pack in my suitcase. The mini-fridge that was included in the room was too funny....we were making jokes about it. It should be called a MICRO fridge. It held exactly two 20oz bottles of water and nothing more. We found it listed on Amazon.com as a skincare, cosmetic fridge. That explained the mirror on the front! lol. We still had a wonderful time and enjoyed our stay.
