First Impressions
Walking up to Prinsenhuis along the Prinsengracht, you can’t help but smile at how perfectly Dutch this whole setup feels. It’s one of those classic Amsterdam canal houses that’s been turned into a hotel, and honestly, they’ve done it right. The building has that timeless brick facade you see in all the postcards, but there’s something more polished about it β like someone took extra care to make sure it stood out among the neighboring houses.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about staying right in Amsterdam City Centre β you’re literally on one of the main canals, which means you can walk to basically everything. The Anne Frank House is maybe a ten-minute stroll, and you’re close enough to the Jordaan district that you can duck into those little brown cafΓ©s whenever you want. What’s even better is that you’re away from the absolute chaos of Dam Square, so you get the authentic canal-side experience without feeling like you’re living in a tourist trap.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had those big windows overlooking the canal β and I mean, that’s really what you’re paying for here. Sure, the space isn’t huge (this is Amsterdam, after all), but they’ve made smart use of every inch. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom modern enough, and there’s something charming about how they’ve kept some of the original architectural details while making everything feel current. You know what surprised me? How quiet it was at night, considering you’re right in the city center.
What Sets This Four-Star Apart
The staff here actually knows the neighborhood β like, really knows it. When I asked about where to grab breakfast, they didn’t just point me toward the nearest tourist spot. Instead, they sent me to this little bakery three streets over that locals actually use. The whole operation feels more personal than what you’d expect from most hotels in this area. There’s a restaurant downstairs that serves decent food, though honestly, with Amsterdam’s food scene right outside your door, you might want to explore a bit.
Why Guests Love It
Look, you’re not going to find groundbreaking amenities here, and that’s not really the point. What you get is a well-run hotel in an authentic Amsterdam canal house, right where you want to be. The 8.9 rating makes sense β it’s the kind of place that does the basics really well without trying to be something it’s not. If you want to wake up to canal views and walk to most of Amsterdam’s highlights, this spot delivers exactly that experience.
Amsterdam hotels keep travelers close to cycling routes, floating flower markets, and tram lines to hidden gems.

What could be improved: Nothing.
Fantastic apartment with everything you need and stunning views Great location overlooking the most beautiful canal, it felt like a home from home!
Superb Loved our stay! I could sit all day watching the boats go down the canal. Excellent location, very central. The apartment had everything you needed. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you
Great location, friendly, responsive staff. Comfortable for our family of four. Location and comfortable sleeping accommodations for our family of four.
What could be improved: It was not clear which unit we would have prior to checking in. I was originally hoping for a higher floor but we enjoyed the first floor, opening the windows, enjoying a coffee and watching the Dutch lifestyle by the canal.
Exceptional For Amsterdam, especially this central location, this is an amazing amount of space. We stayed with our two young teens, who shared the pullout couch. Loved having the kitchenette to make coffee (Nespresso!) in the morning and then look out the window onto the canal. The location is just a block from a Metro stop and a couple blocks to a few trams, so you can get anywhere in town easily.
Splendid stay at Prinsenhuis Great location as it is very close to several attractions. A really nice hotel and a friendly manager. There is a cafe down the street (about 200 ft away) where you can have breakfast. Also, should you choose to make your own, there is a nice kitchen at your disposal.
Of course, if they served princely breakfast, that would elevate the experience considerably.
Exceptional We stayed with my 2 year old son and my husband together. The size of the room, location, comfort and cleanliness were great. Also, the staff here were very friendly and helpful.
We will definitely stay here on our next stays and will not forget to mention that we want the orange room :)
For the people who is planning to cook in the room; As you might expect, there isn't a wide variety of dishes, but pots, pans, forks, knives and spoons are quite sufficient. I was able to easily cook practical things like soup and rice for my son, and I was able to heat up and serve the frozen meals I brought, thanks to the microwave. It made me relax as a mother and this note is for mother who is curries about the kid's meal in Amsterdam :)
What could be improved: As expected the stairs were very steep, this is the case in every hotel in Amsterdam so we set our sights on the Orange room for our next stay :)
